“Love from the Other World” – fell in love with a dead man
France, 2025, drama, director: Alice Viall, starring: Jonathan Cohen, Magali Lépin Blondeau, Florence Janas.
She's got a special something - some might call it a gift, others a curse. You see, she can see the dead, and it's not just about seeing them, it's about helping them too. She's got this ability to reach out to souls who are stuck, who can't seem to let go of this world, and guide them towards the other side. It's a heavy burden to carry, but she does it anyway. The problem is, it's a pretty lonely existence. I mean, how can you really be with someone when you're constantly walking the line between two worlds? Her partners, they either think she's lost her mind or they're just too scared to stick around. It's hard to blame them, really. I mean, who wants to be with someone who's always got one foot in the grave, so to speak? But at the same time, you can't help but feel for her. She's like a bridge between two worlds, and it's a pretty isolating place to be.
Everything changes when she falls in love with a guy... who has already died - although at first she does not even realize it. As before, she tries to “save” him, to help him accept death. But this time everything turns out to be more complicated. And then - a story that is better to live with the characters than to retell.
This is a moving story about two lonelinesses who find each other on opposite sides of the border between life and death. She teaches him to accept the end, and he gives her back the feeling of life. The paradox is that in order to truly begin to live, she has to face death face to face. The film is about living loss - and how both the living and the dead go their own way to acceptance, each in their own way.
