Extraordinary attorney Woo, a delightful drama but with a theme of autism that is treated too easily. (ENG/ESP)
Good morning blog friends, how are you? I'm a little better today but I still have the aftermath of a bad intestinal virus, the positive side of the virus is that I was able to stay on the couch for several days and marathon kdrama and TV series. I had also read many good reviews here about the extraordinary attoney Woo, and finally I decided to watch it and I wasn't disappointed even if for some things I can't give it the highest rating. In the meantime I'll tell you a bit about the plot, Woo is a young and brilliant aspiring attoney who suffers from autism, thanks to some old acquaintances she finally finds work in her field of study in the Hanbada studio, as soon as she enters she still has various problems due to her neurodivergence but everyone also notices her extreme genius, she has an incredible memory for law and is able to grasp details that others miss. In the new study she meets various people, her colleagues who initially do not treat her very well, in fact with one of them there will be various problems because he will try to accuse her of nepotism, but slowly they will become a very close-knit team, with one colleague in particular a relationship will be created that goes beyond work. He will try to penetrate and accept the strange world of attorney Woo with extreme sweetness and delicacy. Obviously there is also the procedural part of the story like almost all dramas and series that deal with lawyers and law, each episode corresponds to a specific case, dealing with interesting cases of various kinds.
Some cases are really difficult even on an emotional level, others are lighter.
The drama has a good pace, the episodes and cases are never boring or monotonous, it is a fairly light and delicate drama, it inspires sweetness and sympathy, there are many funny and light parts but also the more emotional parts are a source of reflection. I appreciated it as a drama because it is really cute but there is a but I did not like the excessively romanticized world with which they addressed the topic of autism, with some behaviors brought almost to exasperation and as something almost funny and theatrical. I think that the topic of autism was addressed with a little too much lightness and increasing the stereotypes regarding this neurodivergence. For the rest it is a really pleasant drama, cute and with very good actors. If they had treated autism in a slightly more realistic and non-stereotypical way I would have appreciated it more but perhaps it was a plot choice to make a topic that is probably still taboo in Korea a little more visible and understandable. The actress who plays Woo is very good though and the drama is really delightful so I recommend watching it without getting annoyed by the idealized way they portray autism.

It took me a while to actually like this K-drama but it grew on me after some episodes. It's probably the portrayal of the autism for me that was pretty off and took me a while to actually enjoy it.
Same impression 💖
Woo to the young to the woo 😍
it's a good and thoughtful story, good post!
Thanks 😊
I'm glad you watched it and liked it, even if you had some reservations. I also binge-watched it a while ago, and honestly, it left me with a bittersweet feeling, similar to yours. I agree with you that the series is very moving and entertaining. The way Woo solves cases with his unique logic and prodigious memory is fascinating. Each episode was a surprise and kept me glued to the screen.
Now, as for the issue of autism, I agree with you 100%. I felt that, at times, they fell into clichés or even idealized it too much. It's true that the intention may have been good, perhaps to raise awareness of the issue in Korea, where you mention it could be taboo, but I think they sometimes went too far in the way they portrayed Woo's neurodivergence. Good review!
The same with me I appreciate it but with a bitter sweet feeling ❤️
