Oddity movie review, an atypical horror movie (ENG/ESP)

Good evening hivers as you will see from my previous post Saturday night for us is pizza night but also horror, I usually don't review many horror because honestly lately I only find very banal or too splatter or very silly horror but what we saw last night instead I really liked the title is "Oddity" it is a 2024 film of about an hour and a half. The film is a psychological horror not the classic horror full of jump scares and blood and stomach-churning scenes. Obviously it is not immune to some slightly crude scenes but they are few.

The plot is about a psychiatrist and his wife who move to a house in the middle of nowhere, a house to fix, the psychiatrist often works night shifts and one night his wife Dan left alone finds herself in an unpleasant situation, a man with a disturbing air and two-colored eyes knocks on her door telling her that she is in danger and that there is someone in the house, he reveals to her that he is a patient of her husband and she gets scared. Here the scene shifts and we move forward, we find ourselves in a shop of oddities owned by the psychiatrist's sister-in-law who suffers from blindness but has mediumistic powers, she sees things that others do not see. It turns out that the psychiatrist's wife was killed by the patient with the fake eye who also died in strange circumstances. The psychiatrist brings the fake eye to his sister-in-law because she wants to see if by touching it she will discover something about her sister's death.

Buenas noches hivers como verán en mi publicación anterior el sábado por la noche para nosotros es noche de pizza pero también de terror, normalmente no reviso mucho terror porque honestamente últimamente solo encuentro terror muy banal o demasiado salpicado o muy tonto pero lo que vimos anoche en cambio me gustó mucho el titulo es "Oddity" es una película de 2024 de aproximadamente una hora y media. La película es de terror psicológico, no del clásico terror lleno de sobresaltos, sangre y escenas que revuelven el estómago.

Obviamente no es inmune a algunas escenas un poco crudas pero son pocas. La trama trata sobre un psiquiatra y su esposa que se mudan a una casa en medio de la nada, una casa que necesita arreglos, el psiquiatra muchas veces trabaja en turnos de noche y una noche su esposa Dan, quedándose sola, se encuentra en una situación desagradable, un hombre de mirada inquietante y ojos bicolores toca a su puerta diciéndole que está en peligro y que hay alguien en la casa, le revela que es paciente de su marido y ella se asusta. Aquí el escenario cambia y avanzamos, nos encontramos en una tienda de rarezas propiedad de la cuñada del psiquiatra que sufre de ceguera pero tiene poderes mediúmnicos, ve cosas que otros no ven. Resulta que la esposa del psiquiatra fue asesinada por el paciente del ojo falso que también murió en extrañas circunstancias. El psiquiatra le lleva el ojo falso a su cuñada porque quiere ver si al tocarlo descubrirá algo sobre la muerte de su hermana.

In the meantime, the widower psychiatrist has made a new girlfriend and his sister-in-law shows up at their house one evening by surprise leaving them both shocked, however the new girlfriend also claims to have seen strange presences in the house, the matter becomes increasingly disturbing and strange. The sister-in-law medium and the new girlfriend immediately have strong friction and the presence of the medium in the house always creates scary situations and awakens particular bad things... The situation from here on becomes increasingly intricate and dark until a totally unexpected ending. I find it a very well made horror even if my husband found the pace of the film a bit slow, I don't know, the photography is really very beautiful and the plot is not banal even if not the scariest, it keeps suspense slowly throughout the film. A perfect horror for a Saturday night at home!

Mientras tanto, el psiquiatra viudo ha encontrado una nueva novia y una noche su cuñada aparece inesperadamente en su casa, dejándolos a ambos en shock. Sin embargo, la nueva novia también afirma haber visto presencias extrañas en la casa, el asunto se vuelve cada vez más inquietante y extraño. La cuñada médium y la nueva novia tienen fuertes fricciones desde el principio y la presencia de la médium en la casa siempre crea situaciones aterradoras y despierta cosas particularmente malas... A partir de aquí la situación se vuelve cada vez más intrincada y oscura hasta un final totalmente inesperado. Me parece una película de terror muy bien hecha aunque a mi marido le pareció un poco lento el ritmo de la película, no sé, la fotografía es realmente muy bonita y la trama no es banal aunque no la más aterradora, mantiene el suspenso poco a poco durante toda la película. ¡Un terror perfecto para un sábado por la noche en casa!
