Hola de nuevo! Hoy les traigo un post bastante chévere en el cual les hablaré sobre tres películas de David Lynch que me encantan. Este director en muy peculiar, muchos dicen que es de los que amas u odias, ya que en sus películas narra historias que a primera vista pueden parecer extrañas y difíciles de entender, sin embargo, tienen mucha profundidad que al entenderlas te dejan pensando y reflexionando sobre la parte que no aceptamos de nosotros mismos. Hablar a detalle del cine de David Lynch da para un post aparte ya que es muy interesante ahondar en ello y su filmografía. Hay varias películas de él que son muy buenas, podemos nombrar Erasehead, El Hombre Elefante o su exitosa serie Twin Peaks, pero hoy les hablaré de tres films que siento que son fundamentales para entender su arte, las intentaré explicar sin spoilers, comencemos!
Hello again! Today I come with a pretty cool post in which I will talk about three films by David Lynch that I love. This director is very peculiar, many say that he is one of those that you love or hate, because in his films he relates stories that at first glance may seem strange and difficult to understand, however, have a lot of depth that when you understand it, it leaves you thinking and reflecting on the part that we do not accept of ourselves. Talking in detail about the work of David Lynch gives for a separate post as it is very interesting to delve into it and his filmography. There are several films of his that are very good, we can name Erasehead, The Elephant Man or his successful series Twin Peaks, but today I will talk about three films that I feel are fundamental to understand his art, I will try to explain them without spoilers, let's go!
𝐁𝐥𝐮𝐞 𝐕𝐞𝐥𝐯𝐞𝐭
Esta película fue hecha en el año 1986 luego de Dune, obra que Lynch no disfrutó hacer y cuyo resultado no fue bueno. Para recobrarse de ese tropiezo, piso fuerte de regreso con esta película. La película comienza con Jeffrey (interpretado por Kyle MacLachlan, el cual también trabajó en Dune), que vive en un lugar aparentemente perfecto y tranquilo (esta característica de ciudad idílica es muy común en las obras de Lynch). Jeffrey un día se encuentra una oreja humana y la lleva al detective del lugar llamado Williams (interpretado por George Dickerson) y así conoce a su hija, Sandy (Laura Dern, actriz con la que el director trabaja de manera recurrente). Sandy le ofrece a Jeffrey detalles de la investigación lo cual hace que él quiera investigar más por su cuenta, todo esto los lleva al hogar de una mujer muy extraña llamada Dorothy Vallens (interpretada por Isabella Rossellini), el chico entra a la casa pero debe esconderse ya que llega Frank Booth (interpretado por Dennis Hopper), el cual es un hombre muy peligroso y loco. Esto hace que los jóvenes se vayan adentrado a un montón de situaciones que hace que el lugar aparentemente perfecto en donde se encuentran sea visto de una manera diferente. Esta película fue como un renacimiento para Lynch luego de Dune, algunos directores la describen como una de las mejores películas, el desarrollo te deja viendo la película sin distraerte para saber qué es lo siguiente qué sucederá, porque no te esperas nada. Es una película que te adentra de manera perfecta al cine de este director.
This movie was made in 1986 after Dune, a work that Lynch did not really enjoy making and whose result was not good. To recover from that stumble, he came back strong with this film. The movie begins with Jeffrey (interpreted by Kyle MacLachlan, who also worked in Dune), who lives in a seemingly perfect and quiet place (this idyllic city feature is very common in Lynch's works). Jeffrey one day finds a human ear and takes it to the local detective named Williams (interpreted by George Dickerson) and thus meets his daughter, Sandy (Laura Dern, an actress with whom the director works recurrently). Sandy offers Jeffrey details of the investigation which makes him want to investigate more on his own, all this leads them to the home of a very strange woman named Dorothy Vallens (interpreted by Isabella Rossellini), the boy enters the house but must hide as Frank Booth (interpreted by Dennis Hopper) arrives, which is a very dangerous and crazy man. This makes the young protagonists go into a lot of situations that makes the seemingly perfect place where they are seen in a different way. This film was like a rebirth for Lynch after Dune, some directors describe it as one of the best films, the development leaves you watching the film without being distracted to know what will happen next, because you do not expect anything. It is a film that takes you perfectly into the cinema of this director.
𝐋𝐨𝐬𝐭 𝐇𝐢𝐠𝐡𝐰𝐚𝐲
Esta película fue estrenada en 1997 y la considero otra de las obras más destacables del director y unas de las películas que más me gustan de Lynch. La historia de esta película nos presenta a Fred Madison (Pullman), un saxofonista de jazz que vive en un Los Angeles. Un día recibe una llamada muy extraña por el intercomunicador de su casa que dice "Dick Laurent está muerto" pero al salir para ver quien fue, no hay nadie. Fred está casado con Renee (interpretada por Patricia Arquette), con la que parece tener una relación algo fría. La pareja comienza a recibir videocasettes de su casa e incluso de ellos durmiendo, por lo que llaman a la policía. A partir de aquí todo comienza a volverse más tétrico y aparentemente inentendible, ya que luego de una fiesta a la que fueron Renee y fred, este último descubre un videocasette el cual ve solo, donde él mata a su esposa lo cual lo lleva a la cárcel. Para no hacer spoiler no diré más, pero sí diré que esta película narra e manera muy buena como las personas a veces llegan muy lejos en sus pensamientos para no asumir su propia culpa, llegando incluso a crearse escenarios ficticios creyendo que son la realidad objetiva. Una película que aunque a la primera admito que no había entendido muy bien, al profundizarla y verla de nuevo, hizo que me encantara y pensara "¿como rayos no lo vi antes?"
This movie was released in 1997 and I consider it another of the most notable works of the director and one of the films that I like most of Lynch. The story of this movie introduces us to Fred Madison (Pullman), a jazz saxophonist who lives in a Los Angeles. One day he gets a very strange call on his home intercom saying "Dick Laurent is dead" but when he goes outside to see who it was, no one is there. Fred is married to Renee ( interpreted by Patricia Arquette), with whom he seems to have a somewhat cold relationship. The couple begins to receive videotapes of their house and even of them sleeping, so they call the police. From here everything starts to become more creepy and seemingly incomprehensible, since after a party to which Renee and Fred went, the latter discovers a videocassette which he sees alone, where he kills his wife which leads him to jail. To avoid spoilers I won't say more, but I will say that this film narrates in a very good way how people sometimes go too far in their thoughts to avoid assuming their own guilt, even creating fictitious scenarios believing that they are the objective reality. A film that although at first I admit I had not understood it very well, when I delved into it and watched it again, it made me love it and think "how the hell didn't I see it before?"
𝐌𝐮𝐥𝐡𝐨𝐥𝐥𝐚𝐧𝐝 𝐃𝐫𝐢𝐯𝐞
Podría decir que esta es la película que más me gusta de David Lynch, estrenada en el año 2001. La película comienza con una escena de varias parejas bailando, donde una chica parece ganar el concurso de baile. Luego de ello, nos lleva a una chica que sobrevive a un grave accidente automovilístico en Mulholland Drive (esta chica es interpretada por Laura Harring). La chica bastante shockeada por el accidente camina sin rumbo, llegando a un apartamento vacío donde termina descansando. Al día siguiente vemos a Betty Elms (Naomi Watts), la cual es una aspirante a actriz bastante talentosa que intenta probar suerte en la ciudad, el apartamento donde se quedará en de su tía. Al entrar al apartamento encuentra a la chica, como esta no recuerda nada Betty la llama Rita. Betty intenta buscar pistas para ayudar a Rita a recordar quien es, peo solo encuentra un bolso lleno de dinero con una llave azul. A lo largo de la película vemos como ambas mujeres van desarrollando una estrecha relación donde Betty es la chica exitosa y talentosa que ayuda a la pobre Rita. Es un poco difícil narrar la película sin dar un spoiler, ya que describir algunas cosas quitaría el factor sorpresa de la historia de la película, pero puedo decir que habla de un sueño, del cual al despertar parece que la realidad en una pesadilla en la cual la misma persona se metió y no hay vuelta atrás. Como es común en el cine de este director hay que estar muy pendientes de los detalles y a su vez, no dar nada por sentado mientras lo ves, solo disfrutar del viaje dentro de la psiquis. Es una de las películas que más disfruto ver de este director y que al profundizar sus detalles, te hacen apreciar esta maravillosa expresión de arte.
I would say that this is my favorite David Lynch film, released in 2001. The film begins with a scene of several couples dancing, where one girl seems to win the dance contest. After that, we are taken to a girl who survives a fatal car accident on Mulholland Drive (this girl is interpreted by Laura Harring). The girl quite shocked by the accident walks aimlessly, arriving at an empty apartment where she ends up resting. The next day we see Betty Elms (Naomi Watts), which is an aspiring actress quite talented trying her luck in the city, the apartment where she will stay in her aunt. Upon entering the apartment she finds the girl, as she does not remember anything Betty calls her Rita. Betty tries to look for clues to help Rita remember who she is, but only finds a purse full of money with a blue key. Throughout the film we see how the two women develop a close relationship where Betty is the successful and talented girl who helps poor Rita. It is a little difficult to narrate this movie without giving a spoiler, because describing some things would take away the surprise factor of the film's story, but I can say that it talks about a dream, from which when waking up it seems that reality is a nightmare in which the same person got into and there is no turning back. As is common in the films of this director you have to be very aware of the details and in turn, do not take anything for granted while watching it, just enjoy the journey into the psyche. It is one of the films that I most enjoy watching from this director and that when you delve into its details, you appreciate this wonderful expression of art.

I feel that these films are the ones I've liked the most of him and I still have to see some of them, as well as his Twin Peaks series (which I'll surely do a post about it when I see it).
