The story of the movie

Lincoln takes notes after being re-elected in 1865, as the Civil War is drawing to a close, Lincoln wonders aloud what will happen to the slaves after the war ends. He did not make slavery illegal, so a constitutional amendment that would abolish slavery completely is the answer.

Lincoln meets a white couple from Missouri and asks them what they think of emancipating the slaves. The lady tells him that she agrees if it will end the war. He asks her again if the war is really over. Will she agree to emancipate the slaves afterwards, but the lady refuses because the freed slaves will crowd out jobs, Lincoln asserts that the passage of the Article 13 amendment must be done before the end of the war.

The Senate approves the proposed amendment while the House of Representatives opposes the resolution, Lincoln is trying to employ lobbyists to persuade House of Representatives to approve the amendments, as he tries to persuade influential representatives in the Republican Party and leaders of his conservative wing Preston Blair and his son to approve the amendment, but Preston requests a visit to the Confederate Army Command in Richmond Virginia, and invited them to send a delegation to negotiate an end to the war in Washington.

This embarrasses Lincoln, as ending the war after all the bloodshed in this way would mean the return of slavery. As if nothing had happened, Lincoln relied heavily on the Radical Representatives of Pennsylvania led by Tadeus Stevens, who believed in complete racial freedom, including the right of blacks In voting, they also abolished the death penalty in the state before.

As for Lincoln's family life, his wife, Mary Todd, who supports the amendments, suffers from constant headaches as a result of her fear of her husband's assassination, after she lost her son Willie three years ago, and her second son Robert, who studies law at Harvard University, insists on leaving university and enlisting in the army. Lincoln tries to persuade his son to back off, but fails, so Mary assures that he will follow him to the staff of Army Commander Paulis Grant, thus eliminating the possibility of any harm.

Commander Grant sends to Lincoln to tell him that the negotiating delegation wants to come to Washington to negotiate, so Lincoln asks Grant to detain them until the amendments pass after ten days. Constitutionally, and after all the deputies have voted, the session chair asks the person responsible for taking the votes to write down his vote of approval for the amendments because that is a historical position.

After the vote, Lincoln meets the delegation and agrees with them to end the war in exchange for agreeing to the constitutional amendments, and the delegation is forced to agree after their defeat in the war, Lincoln goes to Virginia to visit the army and inspects the bodies of the dead that were lying everywhere. Not harming southern officers and soldiers after they announce the surrender, days after the surrender Abraham Lincoln is assassinated.
