The Review of a Mind Blowing Tyler Perry Film-Straw

I had seen someone write briefly about the amazing movie ''Straw'' earlier but I didn't take the time to go through the write-up, until I saw the notification pop-up earlier today, and I watched the trailer, which of course, drove me straight to watching the movie itself, being a big fan of Tyler Perry's work made it more swift for me to relax and watch the movie with the spare time I had.

The main character role Janiyah Watkinson was acted by Taraji P.Henson, and the role is the description of a single mother who was going through the worst day of her life. She had to work two jobs to take care of herself and her daughter without any form of support coming from family members and loved ones. Her daughter has some serious health issues, she experiences serious asthma and seizures, this is an additional strain on her finances as there is a need to ensure medications are adequately provided..

Her daughter had informed her of the need to pay $40 in school for her launch debt so she could have lunch with other kids, as she stepped out of her house, the landlord threatened to throw out her things if she did not pay up her rent. She replied the both situations with the expectations of her salary that day and she promised to pay er landlord during work break by 10:00am, and her daughter's mother for school launch too.

She resumed work and a customer who was trying to make some prohibited purchases with a WIC card, and when she respectfully declined, the customer threw a bottle down which would have hurt her but thankfully didn't. Her boss unbothered about her safety yelled at her to clean up the mess created. While trying to handle that, she received a call from her daughter's school requesting for her attention. She pleaded with her boss to grant her the permission and after pleading severally, he gave her 30 minutes to hurry down.

Without having the money to pay for her daughter's lunch, she tried to take out the remaining money in her account with a card but that was not possible too, she walked into the bank and was asked to join the long queue, she did not have the time to spare so she zoomed to her daughter's school. When she got there, she realized her daughter was being taken away from her as there were proofs to show the child needed more care than the mother could give.

Broken and dejected, she got back into her car on her way back to work, she tried to avoid a long traffic when she got into the way of a police officer who got bent on dealing with her, and threatened to shoot her the next time he saw her. Her car was seized too and when she got back to work, her boss fired her. She asked for her check, and he said she had to wait in the mail for three days before getting it, even after explaining to him that she didn't have that time, he was not understanding at all.

She hurried back home and meet her properties on the floor under the rain, she rushed back to work to explain the reason why she urgently needed her check to her boss but he just wouldn't listen. During the conversation, a man harmed with gun came in and Janiyah got agitated when the robber requested for the back pack that contained her daughter's science project and medications, she accidentally shot him and her boss insisted she had it planned and called the police.

From the state of confusion, fear, anger, and uncertainty, she shot her boss too and took her check to a nearby bank. The teller said she needed an ID which she didn't have and she brought out a gun, this led to the bank manager calling the police and informing them of a robbery attack on the bank. As the story unfolded, Janiyah was able to share her story with the world, even if she didn't know they were listening and this generated a crowd protesting for her release, with the bank manager who has a good heart and stood with her through it all.

Eventually, we realized Janiyah has been hallucinating as she had lost her daughter the night before. The movie shows the reality of certain women especially single mothers who have no assistance coming for them, the power in love and support displayed by the bank manager and the police who was kind and could relate with her story.
I rate the movie a 9/10 because the story line and acting skills were top-notch.

The trailer was taken from YouTube.
