I hope you are all doing well. I am doing well, thank God, and after a long, long time, I am resuming my reviews in this wonderful Hive community. And, of course, with the best attitude and content for you.

It's quite funny, I like reviews, but I reached a point where, between lack of time and the fact that I think I covered the same topic quite often, I ended up exhausted and decided to take a break, and now I need to do them. In fact, I've had this one scheduled for months.

While in December people were watching Christmas films or series, I was watching horror films, ha ha ha, or not so much scary ones, but ones about vampires or werewolves. This time, I wanted to watch a classic film of this genre, but honestly, I hadn't seen it, and what a gem of a film I had missed. So, this time we're going to talk about Van Helsing from 2004.

As in all my reviews, I will give you a brief summary, and at the end, my comments with my opinions. Remember that everything is based on my perspective and tastes.

Van Helsing is a monster hunter rescued by Vatican monks. He does not remember much about his past, who his parents are, or where he comes from. He only wants to rid the world of evil and the creatures that threaten people. He became one of the best human warriors and is the most knowledgeable about how the beasts of the Underworld operate. Of course, his methods are somewhat... questionable. For some citizens, he is a hero, while for others, he is more of a ruthless rule-breaker.

However, Val Helsing only acts from the shadows until his work is done, but his latest hunt in London left him very exposed, which caught the attention of the Vatican. But they don't have time to reprimand him as they have more pressing matters to attend to. In a village in Albania, the last descendants of the Valerious family reside, threatened with death by the most powerful and almost indestructible monster of all time, Count Dracula.

The Valerious family swore not to enter the kingdom of heaven until Dracula died at the hands of their descendants. As they are losing the war against him, the Vatican sends Van Helsing to help them. However, no one knows how to stop Dracula, but that matters little to Helsing as long as there is a small chance of doing so. What he does not know is that a truth is hidden between the Valerious, Dracula, and him.

Let's start at the beginning. At the start of the film, I already had my expectations, because I had seen bits and pieces of it on TikTok, especially some incredible dialogue, and I said, "Nah, this film must be good." Plus, I like the vampire, werewolf, and hunter plot, as long as it's well developed, not to mention the Underworld saga, ha ha ha.

Now, at the beginning, the film introduces you to the setting in a simple way, both in terms of who the characters are, the problems that need to be addressed, and, well, the way in which it is not yet known how they will be resolved, but it is the action and the development of each character that is what draws you into this film. For me, at least in my opinion, what draws me to this film is the story, the mythical legends and, of course, the action, and I think this film has a bit of both.

On the other hand, the great performances of several characters cannot be denied, but of course the ones that stand out the most are Van Helsing, who plays his role as a monster hunter very well, indifferent, detached but with a clear purpose for why he continues to live. I thought the acting was quite good. Now, the one who took the medal for me is Count Dracula. From the beginning of the film, he is highlighted as the main and final villain, but he is one of those characters whose talent on screen cannot be ignored.

I think that this Dracula, unlike others, retains much of the myth of this creature, an immortal being who is not invulnerable (because he can feel pain), powerful before many creatures of the underworld, considered their leader, tactical, intelligent, calculating and, above all, elegant even in his gait. I would even say that for a film released in 2004, it has very good special effects. I also say that he is the best of the characters because the actor also conveys his philosophy, and that is pure essence for me.

Now, among the characters I like the least or whose performances I thought were quite poor is Ana Velarious. Let's see, this woman only appears on screen to show off her monster-hunting skills, which she doesn't have, to cry for her brother who became a werewolf because of her own fault for acting brave! And, of course, to always be saved by Van Helsing. It's incredible that the actress has a better character in the Underworld saga, but in this film, she is reduced to this. And mind you, I have nothing against female characters, but when a character is poorly written and performed, it shows.

Now, I do think a very positive point of the film is that the ending is quite straightforward. Although it leaves room for alternative endings, which I read were planned but ultimately discarded, I think this ending was the best. It leaves no loose ends, fulfils what was indirectly predicted at the beginning of the film, and doesn't leave you with a bad taste in your mouth or an impact that makes you want to compare it to other endings. As they say, "it's an ending and that's it".

Espero se encuentren muy bien, yo bien gracias a Dios, retomando después de mucho, pero mucho tiempo, las reseñas, en esta maravillosa comunidad de Hive. Y por supuesto, con la mejor actitud y contenido para ustedes.

Es bastante curioso, las reseñas a mi me gusta, pero llegó un punto que entre la falta de tiempo, y que creo que le di bastante seguido al mismo tema, que me terminó de agotar y decidí darme un descanso, y ahora me hacen falta hacerlas. De hecho,está la tengo programada desde hace meses.

Y es que mientras que en Diciembre la gente veía películas o series de Navidad, yo veía películas de terror jajaja o no tanto de miedo, sino de vampiros u hombres lobo, en esta oportunidad quise ver una que es un clásico de las películas de esta naturaleza pero que honestamente yo no ví, y vaya joya de película me había perdido. Así que en esta oportunidad hablaremos de Van Helsing del 2004.

Cómo en todas mis reseñas, les daré un breve resumen, y al final mis comentarios con mis opiniones. Recuerden que todo en es base de mi perspectiva y gustos.

Van Helsing es un cazador de monstruo rescatado por los monjes del vaticano, no recuerda mucho de su pasado, ni quienes son sus padres o de donde viene, solo quiere librar el mundo del mal y de las criaturas que amenazan a las personas. Fue entrando por los mejores guerreros humanos, y es el mejor en saber cómo actúan las bestias del Inframundo, claro, siempre tiene unos métodos algo…cuestionables, para algunos de los ciudadanos es un héroe y otros es más un despiadado que rompe las reglas.

Sin embargo, Val Helsing solo actúa desde las sombras, hasta que termina su trabajo, pero su última cacería en Londres lo dejó muy expuesto, lo cual llama la atención del Vaticano. Pero no tienen tiempo para reprenderlo ya que tienen asuntos más urgentes. En un poblado de Albania, residen los últimos descendientes de la familia Valerious, quienes son amenazados a muerte por el peor monstruo más poderoso y casi indestructible de todos los tiempos, el Conde Drácula.

La familia Valerious juró no entrar al reino de los cielos hasta que Dracula muriera a mano de sus descendientes, como están perdiendo la guerra contra él, el Vaticano envía a Van Helsing ayudarlos, sin embargo, nadie sabe cómo detener a Drácula, pero eso poco le importa Helsing mientras haya una poca probabilidad de hacerlo, lo que no sabe, es que una verdad se oculta entre los Valerious, Drácula y Él.

Empecemos por el principio, al inicio de la película tenía ya mis expectativas, debido a que veía pedazos de ellas por culpa de tik tok sobre todo diálogos increíbles y dije “nah está película debe ser buena" además que la trama de vampiros, hombre lobo, cazadores a mi eso me gusta, claro siempre y cuando esté bien desarrollada, para no hablar tanto de lo fue la saga de Inframundo jajaja.

Ahora bien, al inicio la película te introduce sencillo en el panorama, tanto de quienes son los personajes, la problemática que se debe abordar y bueno, la manera que aún no se sabe de cómo se resolvería, pero en la acción y en el desarrollo de cada uno, es lo que atrapa en esta película. Ya que para mí, al menos en opino, lo que atrae a esta película es la historia, lo mítico de las leyendas y por supuesto la acción que hay, y creo que está película tiene un poco de ambas.

Por otro lado, no se puede negar la gran actuación de varios personajes, pero por supuesto los que más destacan están Van Helsing, que encubre muy bien su papel como caza monstruo, indiferente, despegado pero con un propósito claro por qué seguir viviendo. La actuación que tuve me pareció bastante bien. Ahora quien se llevó la medalla para mí es el Conde Drácula, desde el inicio de la película nos lo resaltan como el villano principal y final, pero de esos que no se puede ignorar el talento que tiene para estar en pantalla.

Me parece que este drácula, a diferencia de otros, conserva bastante lo que se tiene del mito de esta criatura, un ser inmortal, que no es invulnerable (porque puede sentir dolor), poderoso ante muchas criaturas del averno, considerado como su líder, táctico, inteligente, calculador y sobre todo elegante para incluso caminar. Diría que incluso que está película se lanzó en el 2004, tiene muy buenos efectos especiales. Además digo que es el mejor de los personajes porque el actor también transmite la filosofía del mismo, y eso es esencia pura para mí.

Ahora de los personajes que menos me agradan o que me parecieron que sus actuaciones fueron bastante malas, entre ellas está Ana Velarious, a ver, está mujer solo aparece en pantalla, para presumir la destreza cazando monstruo que no tiene, llorar por su hermano que se convirtió en hombre lobo por culpa de ella misma por tirarsela de valiente!! Y por supuesto, para solo siempre ser salvada por Van Helsing. Es increíble que la actriz tenga un mejor personaje en la saga de Inframundo, pero en esta película la resumen a esto. Y ojo, no es nada en contra de los personajes femeninos, pero cuando un personaje está mal escrito e interpretado, se ve.

Ahora sí bien, me parece un punto bastante positivo de la película es que el final tiene un cierre bastante sencillo. Aunque da pie para finales alternativos, que según leí se tenía pensado pero al final fueron descartados, pienso que este final fue el mejor, no deja brechas abiertas, se cumplió lo que se predijo indirectamente a inicios de la película y no te deja un mal sabor ni tampoco un impacto para luego compararlo con otros finales, como se dice “es un final y ya".

En fin, mis amigos y amigas de Hive, esta fue la reseña de hoy, de verdad hubiese querido que saliera antes, pero he tenido problemas con los cortes de luz en la ciudad, así que bueno, trabajamos sobre la marcha.
