Bullet Train Explosion Review: Intense Climax, But What About the Rest?
Hello friends, I am Joy. A new movie has been released on Netflix, a Japanese movie, called Bullet Train Explosion.
Now your first question will be, will I get the movie in English? Yes, it is available in almost all languages and the English dubbing is quite good. The running length is 2 hours and 17 minutes. I will talk about how the movie was in this review.
Story Overview
First, let me tell you the basic story—Japan, where bullet trains are very famous, as you all know. There they are introducing another new bullet train. Those who are going to go on that bullet train are very excited.
Generally, there are people from different categories among those who are going this time. For example, there are school students, and there are also political leaders. This time the train is starting its journey. Shortly after starting the journey, the higher authority of the railways, they get a call from an unknown number, and he says that there is a bomb on this train. Whenever the train speed drops below 100 km/h, this bomb will blast.
This time, the film is going to be about how the authorities there, the government there, the system there save so many lives, whether they can save them at all, and who or what did this thing.
How was the film this time?
There are several positive aspects in this film. There are also many negative aspects. This film could have been a good film. But for some reason, this film does not come across as a good film. It becomes a mediocre film.
Positive Aspects
Now I will talk about the positive aspects of this film. First, the climax or the last 20-25 minutes of this film is breathtaking, designed in an outstanding way. If they had kept this treatment for the entire film, this film would have worked on a different level. But it does not.
But the last 20-25 minutes are breathtaking. You can't watch the movie lying down comfortably. Those thrill moments, edge of the seat moments, those things are moments of tension, but they provide you. You will wonder - what will happen now? What is going to happen to their lives till the end, that thing is very beautiful.
The way the last 20 minutes ends the story, that thing is very good. The climax is designed very well. Along with that, the performers here have done a very good job. The crew members who were on the train, the passengers who are on the journey, everyone is outstanding here.
The government official, the higher authority on that train, everyone who is working there has done a good job and each performance is very fluent in its own place, they have performed very well. They have given as much as was needed. The performance is just outstanding.
And here, not technically, the movie is well-made. Since the entire film is shot on a train—the train is moving, the problems that are coming—the way it shows those things, the look and feel is very good. It has to be said that money has been spent, and you can understand where it was spent.
Every VFX shot has been done in such a way that it looks like your original footage. Outstanding! The way the VFX has been done there, the way the lavishness has been provided to the thing, it is nice to see. You mean the whole thing gives a premium feel.
Here, we talk about various aspects of the train. Look, we mean passengers—we get on the train, we get off the train. It is not possible for us to know more about the train than this.
So since the whole incident here is about the train, rescuing these people, how the butt is doing it, what complications arise while doing it, the way these things are shown, the way the audience is shown through the entire planning—the planning that is being done in the railway higher authority office, the way it is explained like children with a small demo train—those things will be good.
Because, we do not know much about this subject. So, they can provide the basic sense or basic knowledge that is needed to watch this movie, and it is quite good to watch.
This was a fairly positive aspect.
Negative Aspects
Now if we come to the negative aspect. As I said, the last 20-25 minutes are very good. But the tension they build up in these 20-25 minutes, the edge of the seat moment they build up, the thrill they build up, that is not the whole movie. This is an emergency situation, that emergency is not created.
Brother, it seems like people spend the first hour pretending that they can't understand whether this thing is true or false. This phone call that came, is the phone call true or false, they are taking selfies, they mean it has become news in different places around, now everyone is posting about it in their own way on social media.
I mean laughing— "Brother, we are here, look what is happening to us." Everyone is playing the game. What is happening, the urgency, that emergency, that thing is not felt at all. You think an event is happening, but its importance is so great, you can't understand that thing.
When everyone starts taking the thing seriously in the last 20-25 minutes, the movie gets better. But before that, the movie cannot provide that edge of the seat moment, that moment of tension.
And with that, whoever or whatever did this thing, they have a reason behind it. This time, that reason is not strong. Seeing that reason, you will not think that they can do such a big thing because of this. That reason is a very light reason. For which you will think—why is it such a big thing because of this?
That reason does not connect with you anywhere. And for that reason, the emotion does not come out. When will the emotion come out? When those who are doing it, they will be able to show that reason—“Yes, I had such a past, this happened to me in the past, so I was forced to take such a big step.”
But the emotion comes out. The passengers will show that seriousness, but that emotion comes out.
But here, that thing is not shown with that urgency, or it is not shown in that urgent way, for which your emotion comes out. You can't connect with those characters. The reason is that you don't feel strong that this is why it happened, brother, it had to happen. I never thought of that.
These were the positive aspects, the negative aspects.
If you ask me, it's not that it was a very good movie. Again, it's not an out of the box, must-see movie. But it's not a movie that you can throw away or never watch again, either.
It's a decent movie. If you want, you can at least watch it once in a while.

I watched this movie yesterday, and I definitely did not expect the student to be the suspect. It was thrilling, and the characters portrayed their roles well. While the movie itself may not be very cinematic, it kept my heart pounding, and I watched it until the very end. The people in the office really did their part to help save those inside the train. I would give it 3/5.
Thanks for sharing your thoughts. I agree — the student twist was unexpected and kept the suspense alive. Glad to hear the tension and performances worked for you too.
