In The Lost Lands (2025) Review: A One-Time Watch Adventure

Hello friends, I am Joy. Today i am going to review the movie In the Lost Lands, which is a movie based on the short story by George R.R. Martin. It was released in theaters a long time ago and if it is still running in theaters, then should you give your time to this 1 hour 40 minutes long movie or not?

Story Overview

The story is written by Paul W.S. in Anderson's universe, which is created with his wife in the lead, yes yes I am talking about Milla Jovovich, it is something like this that in this world she is a witch and she wants to travel to the Lost Lands, where magical powers also exist and yes many such secrets also, where there is a werewolf, from where the story of this film actually begins, because Milla, who plays the witch, has to find him and finish him within 6 days.

For this journey she hires Boyce, i.e. Dave Bautista's character, who is also a hunter and somehow is also connected to the Lost Lands. Apart from this, people of the church, yes yes have been put in this dystopian future, which might trigger some people. But apart from them, will this journey of a witch and hunter be completed or not, and who is that werewolf, how will the story of this film connect with him, and what is that mystery, the answer to that as I said, you will get only after watching this film, which you cannot watch with family.

Movie Direction

Apart from this, after seeing the poster of the film, my hopes were completely lost, thinking what kind of a thing has Baba Sir made. Yes, the same situation was happening, after which after seeing its trailer, some hope is formed from this film, after seeing both the actors, and along with that the director of the film, who started Resident Evil in a very good way, and at the same time ruined it in a good way, after which I can say that his journey, in terms of filmography, has not been very good at all. But one thing is good in all of them that his films somehow entertain you in terms of time pass.

So does this film tick that column or not, let's talk about all those details in a completely spoiler free manner. So friends, if I give my opinion about the take of the film in the beginning, then it was something like this that what did the makers actually want to make and show with this film, because this film seemed like a mixed bag to me, of many Hollywood films, which I was missing a lot while watching this film.

Action Sequence and their Execution

Even if we talk about the action department of the film, then you are reminded of the film 300 very well, because by using that slow-mo type of action in this film, it is told that the director is very outdated, who is not able to show this type of action in an honest way in this film. But yes, the train sequence and the journey exploring this world with CG characters, as I said, looks fine, but their treatment is very bad, which this film does not want to look at.

Movie Editing & World-Building

If you look at the details, you will see small children, they are made to sit and the story is told, even about the smallest things like a pen fell down, I got up and picked it up, this film creates the same kind of spoon feeding situation for you.

Apart from this, the director's grip on the world, that is, the research was also not that good, who completely ruined this entire world in the process of giving too much information.

Acting Performance

If anything was working even a little bit, then it was Dave Bautista's character, who somehow was showing through his acting in this film that yes, I took the money, I will recover it and return it, so that the audience also does not abuse my character at all after watching the film.

So on the other hand Milla Jovovich, what does she know, maybe her husband insisted that she is playing the lead role in the film, so she must have come to the set every time after waking up from her sleep, because the performance she has given in this film is very bad. And once again I will not even talk about the villain's arc, that would be better, because as I said the characters were made good without exploring them at all, but the director gave them the right to their development and treatment.

Apart from that, now some of the movies which I was remembering a lot, except 300, tell me, then who can forget movies like Rebel Moon, Priest, Book of Eli, Season of the Witch, Dark Tower, and then Mad Max, because following the pattern of all those, if I feel this movie was making its contribution, then it was the green screen. Green screen and only green screen, seeing which it felt as if this film was made during the time of Covid, because it seemed that all the actors must have been acting from their homes, behind which the entire world building shown in this film by putting up a green screen looks very fake.

And above all, I did not understand why the decision was taken to choose such color grading and such a style. If we look at its budget, then this film has been made in a budget of 55 million, after watching which definitely one feels that even if so much budget was spent in this film, then where has it been spent. Because as I said, this film is very messed up, which even after so much negativity I would say that it is in the category of one time watch. Yes, one time watch dumb, or should I say that such a film gives you guilty pleasure. All those movies whose names I told you, after watching which you say that yes, yes, it was good for time pass, whereas in reality that movie was trolled a lot at that time. And I think something similar will happen with this movie too, whose so many bad things I have told you in terms of honesty, as they say, insect bites. From which yes, one thing is that if you ever get a chance, you can watch it at home, not by going to the theater.

Apart from which, what else, we should move straight to the rate category, because there is nothing much left to talk about in this movie. So then for action, which is expected to be a lot in this movie, but unfortunately, according to the situation, I will not give this movie a rating of more than two stars out of five in this category of action. After which zero stars out of five is fine for comedy. So for drama, anything that has not been researched, I will give this movie half a star out of five. And then if we talk about the suspense of the film, then that small twist gives this film half a star out of five. And then if we talk about the horror thriller angle, then for that I can give this film a rating of two stars out of five. After which if we talk about the mass audience, then in the eyes of the mass audience, this is an A minus category film. And if we look at the critics, then brother, I can straight away say that they will put this film in the D category.
