Mission: Impossible – Dead Reckoning (2025) Review | Is It Worth the Hype?

Hello everyone, I hope you guys are doing great. I watched Mission: Impossible – Final Reckoning in Theater. And today i will talk about how I liked this movie in detail. Let's talk about Mission: Impossible – Final Reckoning.

So, this whole series Mission: Impossible has been running since 1996 and till date it has a total of eight parts. This is the eighth part. So here is the final act where all these stories are connecting to some places.

So I will not say that you should go and watch all the eight parts, after that watch this one. But at least do this much - if you want to watch this movie, then go to YouTube and watch its recap, so that you know what it is.

And at least watch the movie that came after this - its first part is Mission: Impossible - Dead Reckoning - completely, so that you don't feel completely alienated in the story - which character is coming from where, who is the villain, who is the hero. That means you get to know all these things in the movie properly.

So take the complete recap of the next one. After that, if you go, you will really enjoy watching the movie. And let me tell you one more fun fact - Mission: Impossible started in 1996, before that its TV series was also running in 1966. And its title music is the same music. So the music that is used in this movie, which is so famous, has come from there. Now let's talk about Final Reckoning.

Story Overview

So the story here, guys - that was the ending of the last movie, which means obviously it was its first part - so the story starts here 2 months after Dead Reckoning. Where the Entity has started destroying many things. It has to dominate the world.

And because of this, in many places, like through AI, we are seeing in real life today that many things are being manipulated inside the videos. Many times we don't know whether this thing is real or fake. So similar things are now happening inside the world. It is shown inside the movie.

And along with that, now it has to dominate the whole world. That's why destructions have also started. Now the Entity has to be destroyed. And for that, in the last part, it was shown that Ethan has got a key – which is a source code of this AI entity. Which is a broken submarine – inside the ocean – 500-600 feet below. Something is inside it, and its source code has to be brought from there, it has to be hacked so that the world can be saved.

So this is the whole mission of this second part. Here the whole story is in continuation. That is why the beginning of this movie will seem the coldest to you, because here no such mission is coming to Ethan. There is no special sequence. He just has to continue his mission.

So the mission does not start directly in the first half of the movie. There is planning there – brother, how will we bring that entity, take it out – all these things.

So that is why the movie may seem a little boring to you. And secondly - there is some fan service for those who are going to watch the movie afresh and those who have already seen it. Where all the parts are connecting, which character is coming from the next movie - all this is shown through references.

So after adding all this, the first half of the movie may seem a bit long, in which there are less action sequences and more planning and execution.

All the action sequences are in the second half – and they are excellent. I really enjoyed watching the action sequences.

Tom Cruise is 62 years old and the way he has executed all these scenes – you will not feel anywhere that something has been shown through VFX or something.

These are real life action sequences, you will not be able to differentiate.

In the movie, as I said, the action sequences happen in the second half. There is a sequence which is inside the submarine. The guy goes into the sea – 500 feet inside. So obviously there is water pressure on him and all these things.

How will it fall, how will he survive from there – it has been shown in a very good and scientific way. So it is very fun to watch. You will really be on the edge of your seat.

The entire sequence - where he has to extract the source code and survive and get out of there - has been shot excellently.

The second sequence is - a flight sequence. Which I think you must have seen in the trailer etc. too. There are two planes fighting with each other. Ethan has to survive from there too - that is also fun.

There was a sequence in the first part of Dead Reckoning too - which became very famous - where Tom Cruise jumps over a train. A ramp was used there. After that the ramp was removed and rocks were put there. So this was the use of VFX as well, plus the actual action sequence.

Both were matched in such a way that they looked like particular real locations and real things. Similar thing has been done here too. So hats off to the VFX artists and cinematographers — who have shown all these things in such an excellent way.

Everything has been incorporated very well inside multiple locations — and it is really fun to watch. Now I will talk about the overall performances.

Acting & Performance

Tom Cruise has done a really excellent job. Apart from him, all the characters — like Benji (Simon Pegg), Luther — all the characters will be really fun to watch.

The rest of the characters — like Gabriel who is a negative character — he was also in the next part. But he does not look that solid. But the reason for this is that the real villain is an invisible AI power — which gets all the plans executed with Gabriel.

Gabriel is like a pawn — who does all the work. So he is not the real villain, but still he has been shown well.

Overall, the movie is fun to watch, but it doesn't have as much solid screen presence as it should have.

Apart from that, whatever else is there in the movie - looks good. And definitely I would suggest you that if IMAX is available, then go and watch it there.

You will enjoy watching all these stunts on the big screen. At least you should go and watch it in the theatre - really it's worth watching in theatres. The way this whole movie is planned out - it's a very long series. And the fans, they will definitely go - they are not going to see my review.

But still I liked the movie a lot. It's a really good movie to watch. And I will give it 3.5 stars out of 5.

Final Verdict

I am just reducing a few points because I felt that the first half was a bit too stretched out. Otherwise, it's a really good movie to watch. I had fun watching the movie.
