Review: Straw – A Heartfelt Tale of Resilience and Society’s Struggles
There's a movie on Netflix called Straw. It's 1 hour 50 minute movie. The Hindi version is available on Netflix. I will not say that the Hindi dubbing is good enough, there is a Hindi dubbing with which you can watch the film comfortably. Language will not be a problem. But I wouldn't say that's a good thing. And if you watch in English, that's fine.
Movie Details
The film is directed by Trailer Perry. The film also stars Taraji Henson in the lead role. I will talk about how the film came to be. See, while watching this film, you will be reminded of a film again and again and you will say, brother, this concept is taken from Bengal. Now I leave it to you to judge whether it is a copy or not, OK fine, no issue.
If someone wants to look at this thing in such a way that, look, the concept will not be invented again. In the history of cinema, every concept has been worked on. Not once, but several times. The work on such a subject has become ready, showing what a man, who has been cast aside by society, from whom society has taken everything, has taken everything he can, what that man can do till the end. And that's what this film is about.
Why it's called Straw, why it's named Straw, that's also said in the movie. Because straw means insignificant thing. To find out more about why Straw is named, you need to watch the movie.
The Positive Aspects
Now let's get to the movie, what I like about it. First of all, this movie is good. The story is a familiar one, not a familiar one. I've worked on this story before. A story from the community. But I like the story. And the way the story is told is good. It's interesting and emotional.
Here is the concept that we live in society, we live among people, we take them along. So, are all of them human beings? But it's not all bad people. And it wasn't even in the movie. But there are some people who hate you. There are good people and bad people in society. The way the concept has been brought out is very good.
Action and Performance
Here are the performances. The performance of Taraji Henson in the role of mother here is just outstanding. Every place will make you think about how a performer can pull off a performance with so much conviction. Brother, stepping out. He had the entire film on his shoulders. And the way he pulls off the film is bound to be underwhelming.
And it's wrong to say his name. Everyone, who was here, there is a bank manager, there is an employee in the bank, there is a policeman. All of them have performed so well. And those who have also performed in negative roles, they have also presented the thing with so much conviction that you will start hating them. You like good people. It was the 96th of the Parramens.
This movie will make you think. This movie will make you cry. Because this movie is so much fun. Everywhere he has been able to give emotional art to the audience. Emotions permeated everywhere. A mother and daughter relationship. It shows the relationship between a mother and her daughter. What do they do when the last of their means is taken away from them? The way it brings that emotional place is very good.
A mother has to endure so much to raise her child. And then when her last resources are taken away from her, then what form a mother can take, that is also shown in this film. And get so emotional in those places, you will get tears in your eyes. And you don't, in a certain place you will be shocked that, brother, what am I seeing? Why are so many things being shown in this way? It's getting too emotional.
As I watched the film, I wondered if the society we live in is really worth living in. You will remember this. Emotional, works so well in every place. The film makes you so emotional that you can't hold back your tears.
Technical Aspects
The technical department of the film is also very good. BGM, not BGM, was uplifting the scenes in one place. Moments are being made. Emotional space is being created. And BGM is making that emotion even more emotional. What makes the place more enjoyable is the people who enjoy the place more. He is enjoying the moments more for BGM.
Say the color tone with it, say the look and feel, each one is very good. A very technical department. But it's pretty tight. The entire movie is based on the plot. And every thought can make a difference. You'll feel like you've done it all at some point.
There are many such people in the society who are known as bad people. And we hate them for it. But have you ever wondered why they are so bad? Why are they behaving in this manner? What's their past? Something must have been taken from them. They have been made so stiff, they have been made such insignificant things that they are forced to be bad today. The way it is presented through dialogue, through conversation, is very beautiful.
Every little thing, from the performance to the story, the way it is technically strong here, the way the subject makes you think, the way the story is storytelling, the way the familiar story makes you emotional, every thing is very strong in this film.
Negative Aspects
Now, if I look at the negative side, there is only one thing that I find negative. Climax could have been a little better. He showed so much from the beginning. No more story, predictable. I didn't want to hide anywhere. So, it tells you everything, not from the beginning. But the film could not give the shock value it should have got in the last.
Lastly, the climax has been completed a little hastily. I felt that if the climax was extended by another ten minutes, if the place was better cooked, if it was better established, the climax, especially, then I would not be able to connect with the film more emotionally. Till the last, I felt that the climax was very light. The climax should have been tighter. Because the whole subject, the way he, I mean, the way the performers have performed, the way the storytelling has been done, they are very strong. So, the question is, why wasn't the last one so strong?
Final Verdict
There are no negatives in this film. Those who want to think, those who want to cry, those who want to be emotional, those who want to see a mother-daughter relationship, those who want to see the story, those who want to judge the fine line between good and bad, they can definitely go and watch this movie on Netflix. I said Hindi dubbing, there is Hindi dubbing, but Hindi dubbing is not very good. Anyway, you can see it.
