¿Barbie cumple con las expectativas? Mi opinión al respecto [ESP-ENG]

Desde el momento en que vi los adelantos de la película, supe que sería poco convencional, algo hecho para ser controversial.

From the moment I saw the previews for the film, I knew it would be unconventional, something made to be controversial.

Siempre pensé que Barbie sería para todo el público, pero realmente no está hecha para la comprensión y el agrado de todas las audiencias. Barbie, es una película que tiene muchos mensajes escondidos respecto a la mujer, el hombre, los estigmas y estereotipos sociales, y la forma en que todo esto afecta emocional y psicológicamente.

Su verdadero público objetivo

Muchas personas, en su mayoría mujeres adolescentes, mujeres jóvenes, mujeres adultas y mayores asistieron pensando que la película sería un hermoso homenaje a nuestras niñas interiores que jugaban con una Barbie, pero fue todo lo contrario, esta película nos sorprende al identificarnos siendo la mujer de hoy que somos, esa mujer que tiene muchas emociones complicadas, que no le es permitido ser intensa porque tiendes a ser problemática, la incomodidad que vivimos frente al acoso callejero, ser criticada por cómo actuamos, nuestros gustos, cómo nos vestimos, lo que pensamos, por lo que decimos y lo que decidimos no decir.

Al mismo tiempo, nos demuestra que no estamos solas en ello, que a veces podemos sentir que no somos suficiente o que perdemos el propósito de nuestra vida, que nos sentimos cansadas de tener que ser extraordinarias, cuando en lo ordinario también somos magnificas y REALES.

Hablemos de Ken, el hombre que vive a la sombra de Barbie

El personaje de Ken, interpretado por Ryan Gosling es el segundo que me atrapó más, pues al inicio la película vemos que el mundo de Barbieland gira entorno a la perspectiva y poder de las mujeres, todas las noches son noches de chicas, y los Ken no tienen voz y, de hecho, no tienen casas. Al salir al mundo real, y que Ken vea que el mundo es “dominado por hombres” le da ese impulso para transformar a Barbieland, y convertirla en un mundo donde los hombres tienen poder y las mujeres son sumisas, sexualizadas y dependientes de los Ken. Esto refleja una balanza, donde ambos personajes representan ambos géneros y luchan entre sí por el poder, cuando realmente debería haber un balance del mismo, sin destruir o desvalorizar ninguno de los géneros.

¿Qué emociones evocan en la audiencia?

Lo más increíble de esta película es que las emociones que evocan son variadas, tendrás momentos de risa y momentos de nostalgia aseguradas. La esperada y emocionante participación de la creadora de Barbie fue una de las escenas más nostálgicas de la película. Del mismo modo, se puede percibir a través de la actuación de Ariana Greenblatt como Sasha, la hija de Gloria, la interpretación distorsionada que ha tenido Barbie al pasar del tiempo, ya que se le ha impugnado a esta muñeca la culpa de ralentizar décadas de feminismo, crear estereotipos físicos de la mujer y provocar de este modo inseguridades físicas desde muy temprana edad en las chicas, cuando en realidad Barbie solo fue creada para motivar a las niñas a soñar e impulsar a las mujeres, no limitarlas.

Mi conclusión

En fin, esta película tiene tantos hilos, tantas interpretaciones, parece una curita para todas las mujeres y, en parte, también para los hombres. De hecho, con el personaje que más me identifique fue con Ken, y soy mujer jajajaja. En lo personal, cree varias alternativas para el final de Barbieland, un mundo más inclusivo donde los Ken y las Barbie tuviesen poder y una voz, existiese un balance de poder, pero el final real que tuvo la película fue sano y satisfactorio, es funcional y me encantó.

¿Barbie cumplió mis expectativas? Las superó; a nivel técnico, guion, trama, desarrollo de personajes, inclusividad y tiene un soundtrack poderoso encabezado por la colaboración excepcional de Billie Eilish, pero desarrollaré el soundtrack en otro artículo. Barbie no está hecha para todo público, sobre todo niños, y no porque tenga contenido adulto, sino que el público objetivo de esta adaptación hace sentido con chicas jóvenes y adultas mayores. Es una película con doble sentido y con cabos que considero que solo jóvenes o adultos podrán entenderlo.

I always thought Barbie would be for all audiences, but it is not really made for the understanding and liking of all audiences. Barbie is a movie that has a lot of hidden messages regarding women, men, social stigmas and stereotypes, and how all of this affects them emotionally and psychologically.

At the same time, it shows us that we are not alone in this, that sometimes we may feel that we are not enough or that we lose the purpose of our life, that we feel tired of having to be extraordinary, when in the ordinary we are also magnificent and REAL.

Let's talk about Ken, the man who lives in Barbie's shadow

The character of Ken, played by Ryan Gosling is the second one that grabbed me the most, as at the beginning the movie we see that the world of Barbieland revolves around the perspective and power of women, all nights are girls nights, and the Ken's have no voice and in fact no homes. By going out into the real world, and Ken seeing that the world is "male dominated" gives him that impetus to transform Barbieland, and turn it into a world where men have power and women are submissive, sexualized and dependent on the Ken. This reflects a balance, where both characters represent both genders and fight each other for power, when there really should be a balance of power, without destroying or devaluing either gender.

What emotions do they evoke in the audience?

The most incredible thing about this movie is that the emotions it evokes are varied, you will have moments of laughter and moments of nostalgia assured. The expected and exciting participation of Barbie's creator was one of the most nostalgic scenes of the film. Similarly, you can perceive through Ariana Greenblatt's performance as Sasha, Gloria's daughter, the distorted interpretation that Barbie has had over time, as this doll has been blamed for slowing down decades of feminism, creating physical stereotypes of women and thus causing physical insecurities from an early age in girls, when in reality Barbie was only created to motivate girls to dream and push women, not limit them.

My conclusion

Anyway, this movie has so many threads, so many interpretations, it seems like a band-aid for all women and partly for men too. In fact, the character I most identified with was Ken, and I'm a woman hahahaha. Personally, I created several alternatives for the ending of Barbieland, a more inclusive world where Ken and Barbie had power and a voice, there was a balance of power, but the actual ending of the movie was healthy and satisfying, it is functional and I loved it.

Did Barbie meet my expectations? It exceeded them; on a technical level, script, plot, character development, inclusivity and it has a powerful soundtrack led by the exceptional collaboration of Billie Eilish, but I will develop the soundtrack in another article. Barbie is not made for all audiences, especially children, and not because it has adult content, but the target audience of this adaptation makes sense with young girls and older adults. It is a movie with double entendre and with lines that I consider that only young people or adults will be able to understand.
