This film, based on the novel of the same name by Miriam Toews, directed and written by Sarah Polley tells the story of a group of eight women from an isolated Mennonite colony in eastern Bolivia who struggle to reconcile the reality of their faith after it is revealed in 2010 that men in their community drugged and raped several women over the years.

The film addresses important themes such as feminism, the struggle for justice and solidarity among women.

This film has a delicacy and depth in its dialogue that is masterful in my opinion, in the midst of greys and blacks, taking the viewer on a journey into our own inner selves.

It is a film that challenges norms and foregrounds the voice and experience of women.

It was released in theatres in the United States on 20 January 2023 and received praise from critics, who praised Polley's writing and direction, the performances of the cast.

It is nominated for an Oscar for Best Picture.
