El caso de la toma de rehenes en las olimpiadas en Munich en 1972 ha generado múltiples adaptaciones, entre ellas mi favorita “Munich”, del que planeo reseñar próximamente. Esta nueva aproximación lo hace desde el punto de vista de los medios que cubrieron el trágico evento. Estrenada en 2024, siendo su director Tim Fehlbaum.
The hostage-taking incident at the 1972 Munich Olympics has inspired numerous adaptations, including my favorite, Munich, which I plan to review soon. This new take on the story is told from the perspective of the media outlets that covered the tragic event. Released in 2024, it was directed by Tim Fehlbaum.
Sinopsis: ABC es un estudio televisivo estadounidense que cubrió los Juegos Olímpicos de Munich en 1972. En una noche se escuchan unos disparos desde la villa olimpica, a continuación todo el grupo periodistico de deportes, que se encontraba cerca de los eventos, tendra que adaptarse para grabar y difundir en vivo, una toma de rehenes contra el equipo israeli, por el grupo terrorista Septiembre Negro.
Synopsis: ABC is an American television studio that covered the 1972 Munich Olympics. One night, shots are heard from the Olympic village, and the entire sports journalism team, which was close to the events, will have to adapt to record and broadcast live a hostage-taking against the Israeli team by the terrorist group Black September.
Si bien es una historia ya vista en otras adaptaciones, además de documentales u otros, este título logra darle un nuevo punto de vista, un equipo televisivo enfocado en deportes que tendrá que adaptarse a la tensa situación en vivo. El gran punto bueno, es mostrar todos los detalles, discusiones y decisiones que se deben tomar en una situación así, pues la responsabilidad de lo que se debe mostrar y decir, se cuestiona en cada momento.
Although this story has been seen in other adaptations, as well as documentaries and other works, this film manages to give it a new perspective, with a television crew focused on sports having to adapt to the tense situation live on air. The great thing about it is that it shows all the details, discussions, and decisions that have to be made in such a situation, as the responsibility for what should be shown and said is questioned at every moment.
Por otro lado, es interesante ver los detalles operativos por los que tiene que pasar el estudio, en los 70 's, para lograr tener imágenes, datos, testimonios, corroboraciones u otros. Incluso un detalle como poner un logo en las imágenes mostradas, puede ser usado en negociaciones.
On the other hand, it is interesting to see the operational details that the studio had to go through in the 1970s to obtain images, data, testimonies, corroborations, and other information. Even a detail such as putting a logo on the images shown can be used in negotiations.
También hay un símil en la inexperiencia del equipo televisivo, enfocado en deportes, para tomar las riendas de un asunto más grave, con la inexperiencia de Alemania para un caso así, en donde la improvisación se dio durante todas las negociaciones y resolución del mismo. A veces ni las mejores intenciones pueden soportar la realidad.
There is also a similarity between the inexperience of the television crew, focused on sports, in taking charge of a more serious matter, and Germany's inexperience in such a case, where improvisation was the norm throughout the negotiations and resolution of the situation. Sometimes even the best intentions cannot withstand reality.
Si bien los escenarios son pocos, la actuación logra destacar, generando una tensión constante, como la presión para tomar decisiones rápidas. Destaco a John Magaro como Geoffrey Mason, acaba siendo el centro por donde pasa toda la información. La edición es correcta, pero a veces no se notan los saltos de tiempo.
Although there are few scenes, the acting stands out, creating constant tension, such as the pressure to make quick decisions. I would highlight John Magaro as Geoffrey Mason, who ends up being the center through which all the information passes. The editing is good, but sometimes the time jumps are not noticeable.
Me atrapo de inicio a fin. Si te interesa conocer este caso, este título nos pone a unos metros de los sucesos. Recomendable.
It had me hooked from start to finish. If you are interested in learning about this case, this title puts us just a few feet away from the events. Recommended.
