Dungeons & Dragons: Honour Among Thieves is a total blast and worth checking out, preferably on a big screen. It's also available digitally if it's not playing in a cinema near you, but it is totally worth watching either way. Sure, "Dungeons & Dragons" is a familiar name thanks to the popular game, but this movie still counts as an original big budget movie. Something which is rather rare these days. Not only it is a big movie, it is also super fun and well made. John Francis Daley and Jonathan Goldstein directed this movie and someone please let them direct a superhero movie. In case it isn't clear enough, I highly recommend this movie.

The movie follows a band of thieves, honorable thieves, who get into some serious trouble after trying to recover a lost relic. Chris Pine plays our lead character, Edgin, a bard and a mastermind that makes plans that not always work. He is charismatic, smart and suspicious and naive in all of the right combination of quantities. He does a great job carrying this movie on his shoulders. Michelle Rodriguez plays Holga, who is the muscle of the group and part of the heart was well. She has amazing action sequences in this movie, a lot of them, and they are excellent. I don't think I was ever this impressed by her in a movie. Plus, she has really great comedic timing as the straight face against Chris Pine's funny guy. They work excellently together while also not being a couple. It is actually super refreshing to see a movie lead by a man and a woman who are not a couple and are not meant to be a couple. They just lead the movie and the group, which is totally awesome.

They are also surrounded by an excellent cast. Sophia Lillis plays a charming and resilient tiefling druid. Her action scenes are some of the most original scenes I've ever seen. She's also a very charming actress and doesn't get enough work after her excellent role in "It: Part 1". Regé-Jean Page has a really small role, but he is super charismatic in it. Just to remind everyone why we fell in love with him in "Bridgerton," but not big enough to make us understand his decision not to return to the show. Justice Smith is an adorkable sorcerer. Chloe Coleman plays Kira, Edgin daughter and she is delightful. All of the cast does a fantastic job.

I want to talk about the villains for a moment. Daisy Head is the main villain, Sofina, a Red Wizard and a necromancer who is obviously terrible from the start. She does a good job with what she gets which isn't much. Unlike our heroes and anti-heroes we never get to find out why she turned villainous or if she was born as such. Shockingly, Hugh Grant, plays another villain. Though he doesn't get a lot of exposition either, he seems to love his part. He is a subtle villain and a humors one. He doesn't get much screen time, but he shines with what he does get to do. He still has his Hugh Grant charm, it is just now used in a malicious way and I got to say that it works. Still, the bad guys are the weak point of this movie as they are a bit of obligatory villain because that's what a movie like this should have.

A lot of movies have villain problem, but are still fun movies and this is one of them. Sure, you can get an idea how this movie will end from the start, but it is a fun ride to get to that end. This movie is packed with action, charming characters, colorful cinematography, funny and great dialogue, it is the package deal. Grab yourself some popcorn and enjoy the ride.
