This movie is just awesome. When they say that they don't make them like they used to, they are talking about this movie. It is just old school good times. Yes, Top Gun: Maverick is a sequel to the 1986 original Top Gun, but I had a good time and didn't feel like I was missing out on anything even though I totally don't remember the original movie at all. There are not enough words to describe this movie. I went to see it after work expecting to fall asleep ten minutes in because I was just so tired and I was on the edge of my seat for most of the movie. The plot is thrilling, the action is almost none stop and the characters are compelling and charismatic. There is nothing not to like about this movie.

Tom Cruise reprises his famous role of Captain Pete "Maverick" Mitchell. He also produced this movie and brought his team to work on the script and it shows. This movie had a lot of people putting in a lot of thought into it. Even the action feels super great because it has that special touch of not being CGI, but being filmed live. It was worth the two year long wait of the movie sitting on the shelf because of COVID and the two decades that it took to make the movie at all, because this is Tom Cruise' first billion dollars movie. And I think that it is one of the best movies of his career.

No more sequels that sideline the main characters even though they are the only ones that we want to see. This title doesn't lie, Maverick is the lead character of the movie. There are some cameos of old characters and references other old characters, but the movie keeps the focus on the character that we want it to focus on. It seems so simply obvious, but as many sequels proved, it is a simple request which studios don't want to grant.

This time Maverick doesn't return to fly, but to teach at "Top Gun" the flying school of the most talented pilots in the navy and to prepare them for a special mission that is super hard and has never been attempted before. Miles Teller and Glen Powell are the standout actors from the new generation of pilots. They have a lot of charisma and presence. But in reality everyone does a great job in this movie. No one can outshine Tom Cruise though. He carrier this entire movie effortlessly.

The acting gets to shine because this movie has a pretty great script. The script gives us what we want, which is wall to wall action that has a logical reason behind it. And it looks spectacular. Just when you think this movie can't get any better, or crazier, it does. I was on the edge of my seat. I was blown away by this movie. I did not expect it to be this good. The premise of the movie is pretty simple, top pilots that are being trained for a small super dangerous mission in an unnamed country (in order to prevent anyone from getting offended, but it will take you three seconds to figure out which country it is). But the way this movie uses this simple premise is brilliant. The characters shine, they progress, they evolved and they do amazing action on screen. What more do you need?

And lucky for us, there is no passing of the torch, because we definitely do not want to see that. We want to see this. This movie is just awesome. I saw it twice in theaters and it blew me away both times. And you have to see it on the big screen. This kind of amazing action is just made to be seen and appreciated on the big screen. If you're looking for a great action movie or just a great movie, it is the movie for you.
