(ENG/ESP) A Mangaka Diary #35 “Alita from the Comic Perspective –/ Diario de una Mangaka #35 – “Alita Desde el Punto de vista del Comic.
Una película que los amantes del cine de ciencia-ficción disfrutarán es “Alita: Ángel de Batalla”.
Esta película, inspirada en el manga del mismo nombre de Yukito Kishiro, fue dirigida por Robert Rodríguez y producida por James Cameron.
La película trata de un futuro en donde la tecnología y la humanidad conviven de maneras increíblemente fascinantes.
La historia relata la existencia de Alita, una cyborg que no tienen recuerdos de su pasado y es despertada en una época en la que no reconoce al mundo en el que vive.
Gracias a la ayuda del Dr. Ido y a su determinación férrea de descubrir quién es, se embarca en la búsqueda para descubrir la verdad que oculta su existencia y su propósito.
Mientras avanza en este viaje, se ve envuelta en situaciones donde los combates y desafíos emocionantes ponen a prueba su valor y determinación.
Desde el punto de vista visual, la película cuenta con una escenografía impactante y los efectos especiales sin duda hacen que el observador sienta que este mundo existe gracias a la cantidad de detalles impresionantes.
Rosa Salazar, en el papel de Alita, hizo una excelente interpretación no sólo dando vida al personaje sino transmitiendo todas las emociones tan complejas que vive Alita en su travesía por la búsqueda de su identidad en un mundo que se encuentra dividido entre los que viven en la ciudad flotante y los de la ciudad de hierro.
En esta historia, se mezcla la acción, el drama y la ciencia-ficción en una forma bastante equilibrada para dar al espectador, momentos para procesar las diferentes emociones y reflexionar sobre temas universales tratados a través de la trama.
Desde el punto de vista del Cómic, es una excelente opción para analizar cómo transmitir emociones intensas no sólo a través del diálogo sino en la forma en que se van relatando los hechos.
Una escena que nos puede ayudar a entender cómo transmitir tensión y suspenso, es la escena donde Alita detiene al Dr. Ido al momento de querer atrapar una presa.
Sin dar muchos detalles para no hacer spoiler a quienes no han visto la historia, podemos ver lo siguiente:
1.- Una toma donde se muestra no sólo la escenografía para dar contexto al espectador sino donde se muestra a ambos personajes. La postura de ambos hace sentir la tensión del momento, ya que tenemos a uno descuidadamente caminando mientras el otro acecha.
2.- El personaje acechado da un vistazo alrededor, lo cual indica que está nervioso. El lenguaje corporal es primordial al momento de hacer escenas donde sólo un personaje actúa, para guiar al espectador sobre las emociones del momento.
3.- El personaje que acecha está a la expectativa y atento a esperar el mejor momento. La iluminación es importante para crear ese ambiente de misterio y tensión pues no se sabe lo que ocurrirá.
4.- Alita se encuentra observando la situación. Nuevamente, el dar contexto del ambiente es importante para que se pueda entender dónde están ubicados los personajes, sobre todo porque tanto Alita como el Dr. Ido están ocultos.
5.- El Dr. Ido está listo para el ataque. Nuevamente el ambiente y la iluminación juegan un rol importante para cargar el momento de tensión al ver la distancia y la forma en que están dispuestos los personajes.
Esto nos hace ver que la escenografía y el manejo adecuado de los planos y ángulos nos pueden resultar muy útiles al momento de contar una historia sobre todo en un medio estático como es el comic y el manga. Por esto, nunca se debe subestimar el impacto que pueda tener la creación de un buen plano de ambiente en una viñeta.

A movie that science fiction film lovers will enjoy is "Alita: Battle Angel."

The movie is set in a future where technology and humanity coexist in incredibly fascinating ways.

With the help of Dr. Ido and her strong determination to discover who she is, she embarks on a quest to uncover the truth about her existence and purpose.
As she progresses on this journey, she becomes involved in situations where thrilling battles and challenges test her courage and determination.
Visually, the movie features stunning set design, and the special effects undoubtedly make the viewer feel that this world exists due to the impressive attention to detail.
Rosa Salazar, in the role of Alita, delivered an excellent performance, not only bringing the character to life but also conveying the complex emotions that Alita experiences in her quest for identity in a world divided between those living in the floating city and those in the iron city.
This story blends action, drama, and science fiction in a balanced manner to give the audience moments to process different emotions and reflect on universal themes addressed throughout the plot.
From a comic standpoint, it is an excellent option for analyzing how to convey intense emotions not only through dialogue but also in the way events are narrated.
One scene that can help us understand how to convey tension and suspense is the scene where Alita stops Dr. Ido from wanting to capture prey.
Without giving away too many details to avoid spoilers for those who haven't seen the story, we can see the following:
- A shot that not only shows the set design to provide context for the viewer but also shows both characters. The posture of both conveys the tension of the moment, as one is casually walking while the other is lurking.
- The lurking character looks around, indicating nervousness. Body language is crucial when creating scenes where only one character acts, to guide the viewer about the emotions of the moment.
- The lurking character is expectant and attentive, waiting for the right moment. Lighting is important in creating an atmosphere of mystery and tension because the outcome is unknown.
- Alita is observing the situation. Once again, providing environmental context is important for understanding where the characters are located, especially because both Alita and Dr. Ido are hidden.
- Dr. Ido is ready to attack. Once more, the environment and lighting play an important role in building tension by showing the distance and how the characters are positioned.
This shows us that set design and the proper handling of shots and angles can be very useful when telling a story, especially in a static medium like comics and manga. Therefore, the impact of creating a good environmental shot in a panel should never be underestimated.
