Greetings dear community, this time I am writing to make a thoughtful review about a film that despite having released in 2019 I had not had the opportunity to see, it is titled Jexi, a cell phone without a filter, which a Despite revolving around a theme that could be an "obvious and known reality", it is possible to realize that it continues to happen and will continue to happen, for which productions like this constitute in themselves a very timely call for attention from the perspective of a romantic comedy, a genre that undoubtedly has a large audience worldwide.

To begin with, in regards to the technical aspects, it is a film released in October 2019, produced by CBS Films and distributed by Amazon Prime Video. Regarding the direction and script, they were developed by Jon Lucas and Scott Moore and basically their cast is made up of the following:

  • Adam Devine as introverted Phil
  • Alexandra Shipp as the uncomplicated Cate
  • Rose Byrne voices Jexi, an unconventional artificial intelligence
  • Michael Peña as Kai, Phil's eccentric boss
  • Ron Funches as Craig and Charlyne Yi as Elaine, both of Phil's co-workers and his future friends.
  • Justin Hartley as Brody, Cate's ex-boyfriend.
  • Wanda Sykes as Denice, a saleswoman in a phone store.

Now, the plot begins by showing the lifestyle of Phil, a journalist who does not exercise his career properly despite working in a company linked to the area, in particular he is dedicated to the area of digital marketing, specifically regarding the content positioning. He is seen in an uncompetitive role, in accordance with his current status, socially shy, this with regard to relationships in the field of physical presence. However, behavior typical of the technological era, he provides a solution to his needs by making use of his telephone with the clear purpose of avoiding face-to-face contact to the maximum for which it is evident that he is not very suitable. It should be noted that the first thing the film shows is little Phil in the middle of an argument with his parents, who always lend him the phone to distract him from these problems, a fact that happens repeatedly until he becomes an adult completely addicted to mobile technology.

Additionally, it can be seen that Phil is highly popular in digital social media (social networks) in which he performs with great dexterity. All his needs are solved through his telephone equipment, from ordering daily food directly to his residence to even arriving at his work with the GPS. Everything seems to be going very well, just tailored for her in her comfort zone, when suddenly one day walking down the street she passes a store and meets Cate, an uncomplicated girl who lives her life in her own way, without limitations beyond the limits. that she can impose herself, of which Phil is amazed and with which in principle it is difficult for him to talk due to his difficulty in talking to real people, just at that moment a stumble causes Phil's phone to fall to the floor in a spectacular way and it is useless, which generates a state of extreme anxiety in him due to his technological attachment.

At that moment, he says goodbye to Cate and goes to a telephone equipment store to acquire a new one, given the impossibility of moving on with his life without said equipment, there Denice a saleswoman from the store sells him the telephone and asks not to return. Upon arriving at her house to configure it, she turns it on and Jexi introduces herself, the artificial intelligence who offers to serve as an assistant in Phil's affairs as long as he approves the rules of use, which he approves without blinking. At that moment, Jexi's true personality begins to manifest, promising not to leave him until he manages to change his life. It should be noted that by approving the rules of use Phil gave him full access to his life, for which, in short, the unusual Jexi turns her life and affairs on its head, achieving in the process that she went out with real friends, Craig and Elaine their co-workers, as well as asking Cate out on a date and asking her eccentric boss Kai for a promotion to the journalist position, everything happens in a kind of metamorphosis in which, as Phil opens up to a life in the real world he is realizing that technology does not exist to be loved but to support him in daily processes.

I highly recommend this movie, it is very funny, it has a pleasant moment of healthy distraction while reiterating a valuable life message for human beings that eventually we can find ourselves trapped even with extreme attachment to technology to the point of forgetting our life In the real world. Finally, as expected, Phil and Cate manage to overcome situations derived from his insecurity in real relationships, he also gets promotion and Jexi leaves him alone to make his way to his next victim: Kai, Phil's boss. Many of us already know it, but it is worth reiterating that technology is a support, it helps us to facilitate specific processes of our lives for which they were designed but will never be a substitute for human warmth, for real connections.

Until a next post, greetings and blessings to all!
