A movie about the Miraculous duo of Ladybug and Chat Noir has been teased for years, but this year we actually did get a movie and boy was it a pleasant experience to watch.

When I was younger I watched the TV show Miraculous: Tales Of Ladybug & Cat Noir, and fell in love with the story. I was delightfully pleased when I found out there would soon be a movie based on the series on Netflix.

The movie follows a girl named Marinette who is clumsy and unconfident in her social life, but has a good heart. When gifted with creation powers from a magical encounter, she can now become the confident Ladybug, a superhero saving people at night with her witty and annoying (at least to her) partner in crime, Cat Noir. But when Paris is threatened by the ultimate villain, it’s up to Ladybug and Cat Noir to find out how to work together and save their city.

I really, really liked this movie. Marinette’s character was super intriguing. I liked how she didn’t just let the school bully mentally or physically knock her down. So many other movies I have witnessed characters just let the bully have a field day with them, and then don’t tell anyone they're being bullied. Marinette finds ways to avoid or combat her bully at times.

The Music

Even though I heard the movie was a musical, I was surprised every time a character burst into song. No kidding. I would just pause the movie or gasp and say, “What!? They're gonna start singing right now?”

The Romance

The romance part of the movie was amazing and nicely written. Not going to give out too many spoilers, but Cat Noir’s got a thing for Ladybug and it is shown well in this movie. Nothing felt forced, and their chemistry was actually beautiful to watch. I would consider their fight scene one of the best romantic sequences I’ve seen in a long time. Nothing stood out, but the music was pleasant!

Praise

The movie’s animation was beautiful. The characters, the lighting, the feeling of everything, I loved it! It was so beautiful to watch.

I loved the themes of the movie, especially embracing love, it was great. The movie had such a lovely conclusion as well.

Though some characters come close, my favorite character might be Plagg. To make a long explanation short, Plagg is a cat-like, magical creature that allows a boy named Adrien to become who we know as superhero Cat Noir. Though Plagg wasn’t shown often, he still made me laugh, and I had always liked him in the TV series.

My Critisisim

There aren’t many cons to the movie. One thing that kinda’ caught me off guard was how different Marinette’s singing voice was to her talking voice. I know there were different actors for her talking and singing voice and the singing sounded great, but the voice change just felt weird and noticeable everytime Marinette would sing.

Overall the movie was great. I would recommend it to kids and teens who want a nice musical superhero movie to watch for the last part of summer, or to anyone who’s watched the show and would love to see a movie version of it.

Greetings, I didn't know they had released a netflix version, I remember watching it on TV a couple of times, until it bored me, since they always went to the same point, there were no new characters, even though the main characters, put a great touch to it. I'm going to look it up and see if I'm up for it again.
