Physical 100 Ended up Boring and Predictable...

So with the aid of the FF button on the remote I managed to get through to the end of Physical 100.

One of the most visibly appealing programmes I've seen in its advertising, and one of the biggest disappointments.

The only way to watch it was generous usage of the FF button, taking out around 60% of the footage.

And this is most DEFINITELY NOT BINGEWORTHY - I mean it's one of the few series I've watched where I've thought 'oh good, another 6 days until the next episode'.

But I had to see it through to the end, I was curious who would actually win, and there I was also disappointed.

I didn't even bother to look up who it was who one, it was some apparent allrounder, a cross fitter I think it was, which does kind of make sense in a really obvious sort of way.

The final outcome: determined by the order of the events...

One thing i really didn't like about the final was how the final five contestants were ejected based on the type of task chosen.

For example, round one was a five way tug of war (below)...

And obviously the smallest guy lost - not only that the strongest two guys game first, but because they were next to each other in the Pentagon, opposite the smallest guy, he never stood a chance.

Then round two was an agility and speed game - the strong man lost, again obviously. He lost badly too, obviously.

And then in the final it was 'endless' rope pulling, but which time we had a cross fitter and a cyclist who didn't train his upper body much.

The cross fitter won, obviously, because rope work is part of cross fit training, not cycling.

Had the final game been about legs, the result would have been reversed.

So at the end of the day we have a dull programme where someone won based on the choice of the assessments by the programme makers.

I'm left with a resoundingly empty feeling and glad I used the FF button so much, what a waste of mine and everyone else's time!

Ha you got us hooked with the last post. !LOL Australian Netflix's must be way behind, We are still in the first series, 6 or 7 episodes in with another one just released. I recon some sort of accumulative scoring system may have been better than the knock out but it is interesting.
@consciouscat is working the FF button too, while I catch up on hive

Yes cumulative would have been much better! Something along the lines of Decathlon maybe!

Haha. Is this who mentioned Physical:100?? Haha. Thanks, @revisesociology it's been fun? interesting? eye opening.

I read the first line of this post and then stopped reading. I don't want to know. Haha. I want to watch it and find out... with the help of the fast fwd button of course.

It's so... mainstream? Kind of? Predictable? Sort of. There are aspects of it I love. I love seeing the cultural differences in communication styles. I laughed at how many HUGE egos were in the room to start with. I LOVED watching those who got through because their minds were really strong. (That would be me: I think my mind is strongly than my--reasonably strong--body).

But all the replays and the gasps and the... over dramatisation, that's the word I'm looking for, it's... all a bit much. 😂 But I'm enjoying it. In small chunks. Not too close to bedtime otherwise I'm wired and wide awake from all the adrenaline it triggers!

!LOL

I didn't read through your full post (just your title) as I'm not done watching it yet and didn't want to read spoilers. I noticed a once popular MMA fighter on it so it peaked my interest. I made it to the end of the episode where the contestants wrestle for a ball and the winner gets to stay in the game/ loser goes home. It was a decent enough concept but they should condense the matches or played two matches at once side by side to shorten up the process for the viewer.

It gets worse - that awful habit of repeating the same 1-2 seconds.... I shit you not the start of the 5 way rope pull - repeated FOUR times from different angles.

It's dragged out beyond belief, should have been 2 episodes.

Idk I rarely like this shows about strength competition, feel like everything is stage and they even know who is going to win, buy hey thx for saving me time now I know its not worth the time 😁✌️

I enjoyed reading your article. Hope you enjoy the game

Looks like I'll skip that one.

Do you remember Superstars? Top sportmen (not sure they had women) would compete in various events. Obviously each would be better at certain things, but it was not knockout and so the allrounders could get the most points. Shows these days seem to be more about spectacle than just enjoying the competition.

Wasn't that the one where they cycled around a running track. I seem to remeber Kevin Kegan falling off and getting scraped up pretty badly!

Could be. I think they had a limited budget for venues. Would football clubs risk their expensive players these days?
