Everything Everywhere At All Once (2022) review: The multiverse done right.

Considering that before "Everything everywhere at all Once" the last movie I had seen this year that I really liked was Hustle, I find quite curious the contrast that exists between these two works, and why both, despite being so different , they can become wonderful within their own parameters.

If Hustle was an extremely conservative work that took advantage of cinema as a format in its most classic sense to narrate a predictable but effective story, the science fiction film written and directed by Daniel Scheinert and Dan Kwan (Hand in hand with the production of A24, which raises our expectations almost automatically) is presented as an absurdist and experimental journey, where the humble two dimensions of our screen barely manage to contain one of the greatest displays of creativity that I have seen in my entire life.

Talking about the premise of Everything Everywhere at all Once is (Ironically) as simple as it is complicated, personally, I feel that repeating like a parrot what I have read in hundreds of other places is enough: It is an exploration of the concept of the multiverse from a quite unique perspective where we follow the story of a Chinese-American woman in the midst of a family (AND financial) crisis who discovers that she has a crucial role in the stability of infinite alternate realities, concatenated with the ability to travel and communicate among all of them.

Don't think too much about it, although these sci-fi tints are attractive and very well constructed, the real hook of the film lies in the visual and thematic execution of this premise, which far surpasses other explorations of the same concept in the modern blockbuster.

For this film there are no limits and everything is always handled in a way in which this irreverence is left quite clear to us as viewers, although it is almost impossible to try to bring infinity to a tangible plane, "Everything Everywhere at all Once" achieves it by mixing in crazy ways hundreds of ideas, genres and directing styles that know how to complement each other perfectly.

Divided into three chapters with irregular lengths (each named after a portion of the film's name), Everything Everywhere at All Once is one of the most experimental and brilliant films I've seen in a long time, puzzling and fascinating in very equal amounts. It contributes with it that the direction is great, that the special effects are of the best quality, and that we are accompanied by a brilliant cast that dominates each one of the many necessary roles.

Considerando que antes de "Everything everywhere at all once" la ultima película que había visto este año que realmente me había gustado fue Hustle, encuentro bastante curioso el contraste que existe entre estas dos obras, y por qué ambas, a pesar de ser tan diferentes, pueden llegar a ser maravillosas dentro de sus propios parámetros.

Si Hustle era una obra extremadamente conservadora que aprovechaba el cine como formato en su sentido más clásico para narrar una historia predecible pero efectiva, la cinta de ciencia ficción escrita y dirigida por Daniel Scheinert y Dan Kwan (De la mano de la producción de A24, lo cual eleva nuestras expectativas de forma casi automática) se presenta como un viaje absurdista y experimental, en dónde las humildes dos dimensiones de nuestra pantalla apenas logran contener uno de los despliegues de creatividad más grande que he visto en toda mi vida.

Hablar de la premisa de Everything Everywhere at all Once es (Irónicamente) tan sencillo como lo es complicado, personalmente, siento que con repetir como loro aquello que he leído en otros cientos de lugares es suficiente: Se trata de una exploración al concepto del multiverso desde una perspectiva bastante única en dónde seguimos la historia de una mujer chino-estadounidense en medio de una crisis familiar (Y financiera) que descubre que tiene un rol crucial en la estabilidad de las infinitas realidades alternas, concatenado con la habilidad de viajar y comunicarse entre todas ellas.

No hay que darle demasiadas vueltas, aunque estos tintes de ciencia ficción son atractivos y están muy bien construidos, el verdadero gancho de la película radica en la ejecución visual y temática de esta premisa, que supera por mucho a otras exploraciones del mismo concepto en el blockbuster moderno.

Para esta película no existen límites y siempre se maneja todo de una forma en la está irreverencia se nos deja bastante clara a nosotros como espectadores, aunque resulta casi imposible tratar de llevar el infinito a un plano tangible, Everything Everywhere at all once lo logra mezclando de formas alocadas cientos de ideas, géneros y estilos de dirección que saben complementarse de manera perfecta.

Dividida en tres capítulos con duraciones irregulares (Cado llamado en función de una porción del nombre del filme), Everything Everywhere at all once es una de las cintas más experimentales y brillantes que he visto en mucho tiempo, desconcertante y fascinante en cantidades muy parejas. Contribuye con ella que la dirección sea estupenda, que los efectos especiales sean de la mejor calidad, y que nos acompañe un cast brillante que domina casa uno de los múltiples roles necesarios.
