Let's talk about Invincible Season 2 - An amazing comeback.

After a wait that seemed eternal, the first episode of the second season of Invincible has finally been released, the Amazon Prime animated series that adapts the comic created by Robert Kirkman and that, together with The Boys, showed that it is still possible do interesting things with superheroes in a post-MCU world.

Invincible Season 1 was a series that reflected all the virtues of animation as a medium, full of good designs, spectacular choreography and a plot and characters with which it was easy to feel hooked from the beginning, something commendable considering that its premise of "what would happen in the world if Superman were real" is not exactly a new idea.

In 8 45-minute episodes we learned the story of Mark, a normal teenager who suddenly acquires superpowers and begins to be trained by his father Nolan, an alien superhero known and adored throughout the earth as "Omni-Man."

Although we might expect a classic cynical deconstruction of the superhero myth, Invincible immerses us in a universe that simultaneously serves to pay tribute to them, as well as recognize the structural and social problems that having them in the real world would imply.

The execution is unique, and I have always respected the courage he has to portray them in a colorful and charismatic way without shying away from the visceral and violent tone that this premise implies.

The second season, to no one's surprise, kicks off as an organic continuation of all these ideas, delving into the existential problems that Mark faces after the tragic end of last season and daring to play with more ambitious ideas such as the existence of alternative realities and clones with similar capabilities.

These days it is easy to feel fatigued by the constant flow of movies and television series inspired by Marvel and DC characters, in this case Invincible is a breath of fresh air that shows us that it is possible to do interesting things with superheroes as long as of having the correct vision.

Aside from this, I applaud the decision to release this new season (again) in weekly blocks, a paradigm shift that ironically makes it easier for us to stay hooked for the long term.

Luego de una espera que se hizo eterna finalmente se ha estrenado el primer episodio de la segunda temporada de Invincible, la serie animada de Amazon Prime que adapta el cómic creado por el Robert Kirkman y que aparte, junto con The Boys demostró que aún es posible hacer cosas interesantes con los superhéroes en un mundo post-MCU.

Invincible Season 1 era una serie que recogía todas las virtudes de la animación como medio, plagada de buenos diseños, coreografías espectaculares y una trama y personajes con las que era fácil sentirse enganchado desde el principio, algo loable considerando que su premisa de "que sucedería en el mundo si Superman fuese real" no es una idea precisamente nueva.

En 8 capitulos de 45 minutos de duración conocíamos la historia de Mark, un adolescente normal que repentinamente adquiere superpoderes y empieza a ser entrenado por su padre Nolan, un superheroe alienígena conocido y adorado por toda la tierra como "Omni-Man".

Aunque podríamos esperar una clásica deconstrucción cínica al mito de los superhéroes, Invincible nos sumerge en un universo que sirve simultáneamente para rendirle homenajes a los mismos, así como reconocer los problemas estructurales y sociales que implicaría tenerlos en el mundo real.

La ejecución es única, y desde he siempre ha respetados la valentía que tiene para retratarlos de forma colorida y carismática sin huirle al tono tan visceral y violento que implica esta premisa.

La segunda temporada, para sorpresa de nadie, srranca como una continuación orgánica de todas estas ideas, ahondando en los problemas existenciales que enfrenta Mark tras el trágico final de la temporada pasada y atreviéndose a jugar con ideas más ambiciosas como la existencia de realidades alternativas y clones con capacidades similares.

En estos tiempos es fácil sentirse fatigados por el flujo constante de películas y series de televisión inspiradas en personajes de Marvel y DC, en este caso Invincible resulta un soplo de aire fresco que nos demuestra que es posible hacer cosas interesantes con super héroes siempre y cuando de tenga la visión correcta.

Aparte de esto, aplaudo la decisión de lanzar está nueva temporada (otra vez) en bloques semanales, un cambio de paradigma que irónicamente facilita que nos mantenemos enganchados a largo plazo.
