ENGLISH

Although Adam Sandler has shown us that he is one of the most highly appreciate mainstream actors in recent years (Thanks to gems like Hustle and Uncut Gems), his comedies are still a bit more "divisive."

And it is that when we see works of the style of Grown Ups (1 and 2) or the infamous Click, it is not exactly difficult to understand why, they are simple and harmless films that lack much substance but that can deliver us rare fun without complications.

For me, in fact, there are cases like Blended or Just Go With It that work perfectly with this formula, and Sandler, who often plays himself, has undeniable chemistry with most of his co-stars.

Perhaps for this very reason, it makes me a little bitter that neither Murder Mystery nor its recently released sequel hit the nail on the head, especially since his narrative ambitions are a little higher than those of all the aforementioned examples.

That's right, Murder Mystery 2 takes clear inspiration from mystery films like Knives Out, presenting us with a murder (or several), multiple suspicious subjects, and a couple of detectives who want to solve it.

This premise (which honestly works very well with comedy) would be great if its execution had an ounce of tact, spent less time on meaningless gags, and established a simple but logical mystery that the viewer could minimally connect with.

However, we get instead a sequence of sudden transitions between action and comedy, as we see Jennifer Aniston and Sandler himself trying to work miracles with a script without personality.

The final verdict? Murder Mystery is a movie that has nothing to offer anyone, there are better alternatives in mystery movies, in comedy movies, and in Adam Sandler movies.

honestly, it hadn't even occurred to me to even watch this at all. I tried the first one and ended up making it about 50% of the way through before I wanted to turn it off and did so. Adam continues to rack up huge amounts of money on silly films though so I understand why he does it.

To be fair I actually enjoyed a couple of his silly films, but this is just too much... Barely entertaining

I actually really appreciate his silly films especially the older ones. I think where Adam kind of ruins the fun for me personally is the fact that he tries to bring along all of his buddies to be in the movies. This is particularly evident in the "Grown Ups" films where half of the people in it aren't even funny and they are just there because Adam is their real life friend.
