The Studio - One of the best series of the year

After seeing how it swept through awards season, I had no choice but to give "The Studio" a try, an Apple TV-exclusive series that premiered in March 2025 and, as of today, has already officially announced a second season.

Presented as a mix of drama and comedy with satirical undertones, The Studio tells the daily life of Continental Studios, a Hollywood production house that has just fired its CEO, who will be replaced by Matt Remick, a film lover played by Seth Rogen. He is disappointed with the studio's current state, which sees it focused more on creating remakes and forced sequels with IPs that don't need them, rather than on arthouse cinema that can genuinely be considered art.
However, Continental's owner makes it quite clear that the company's priority is making money, even if it means sacrificing the quality of its films.
Filmed in a rather intimate and aggressive style (where the cameras generally follow our protagonists and cuts are rare), The Studio perfectly captures the bitterest aspects of the film industry, blending mockery and parody with homage, and presenting a level of production rarely seen in a television series.
The fact that this series is full of familiar faces plays to its advantage, from directors like Martin Scorsese and Zach Snyder to writers and actors like Aaron Sorkin, Zoe Kravitz, and Zac Efron (to name a few), reinforcing the sense of realism that accompanies each of the 10 episodes of this first season.
Although The Studio is primarily a comedy, its most emotionally impactful moments don't lose their power. It's immersive, funny, and takes every opportunity to inject its viewers with stinging critiques of the current entertainment industry.
The Studio is brilliant from start to finish, and I'm excited that a project like this is still going strong.
