This movie left me stunned, speechless and completely hooked.

It's a 2017 crime action film directed by Byun Sung-Hyun. The story follows a young sharp tempered and reckless inmate named Hyun-soo (Im Si-wan), who catches the attention of Jae-ho (Sol Kyung-gu), a powerful boss gangster serving time in the same prison, and who also controls his crime world from there. They form a bond built on survival, trust, ambition and violence, after he saved Jae-ho from an assassination attempt.

Jae-ho sees potential in Hyun-soo and brings him into his inner circle and even promises him a place in the organization once they’re both released. But the twist is this—Hyun-soo is an undercover cop, a spy sent to infiltrate Jae-ho’s organization and bring him down. But Jae-ho did not know this.

Once they are out, things change. Jae-ho wants control and Hyun has secrets. So the trust between them starts to crack. As the power game unfolds, loyalty is tested and betrayal creeps in from every direction making it hard to tell who's really playing who.

This is a stylish crime drama soaked in tension and mistrust. The chemistry between Soulongu and Miwan, is razor sharp, calm on the surface, dangerous underneath. Every scene seems like a setup and by the time the truth hits, the damage is already done.

Main Characters;

Jae-ho (Sol Kyung-gu) though a brutal gang leader shows a vulnerability I never expected, a side of him that showed he was humane.

Hyun-soo (Im Si-wan) was a young cop with a conflicted soul, torn between justice and humaneness, also shows that his relationship with Jae-ho feels genuine, even if it was built on lies.

The Merciless is all about how fragile trust really is, in a world where everyone wears a mask. But the bond between the two men, is both paternal and brotherly.

Sleek visuals, beautiful cinematography. It is filled with lots of slow-motion and the soundtrack intensifies the entire mood of the movie.

I see the movie as something much more than just gang wars or undercover agents, to me, it's pitifully about two men trapped in roles they didn’t choose, but trying to find a meaning in a brutal world where mercy is a weakness.

My Review

The Intense performances from Sol Kyung-gu and Im Si-wan is top-notch, and the whole plot is gripping and strongly emotional. I dried a tear or two while watching.

Rating: ★★★★☆ (4.3/5)

🌸My Motto is: work at making yourself proud of yourself.🌸

Thank you very much for taking time to read me. Have a wonderful day!
