[Movie] Three Movies, One Journey | My Thoughts on the Divergent Trilogy (No Spoilers)
Hello everyone!
For the last few days I looked for something to watch and after people mentioned the Divergent movies a few times I decided to watch the whole trilogy so I watched Divergent (2014) Insurgent (2015) also Allegiant (2016) one after the other. I did not know much about them before starting. I knew they were based on popular novels.
So I finished all three movies & thought I would share my thoughts here with a spoiler free review since these are the kind of movies you enjoy more without knowing what is coming next.

The first thing that caught my eye was in modern times building and the story happening in a future society divided into groups, each showing a particular personality trait. At first, I thought it sounded strange. The movie explains the idea. It is easy to understand. It creates a setting distinct from other sci fi movies.
The first movie gets right into the story without much waiting before things start happening. It introduces the main characters. It explains the rules the space of. It builds tension. It does not confuse.
The action scenes were enjoyable but they aren't just random fights for entertainment. Most of them move the story forward. I appreciate this. Some scenes were intense. They kept me watching. I did not check my phone. Not once.

I liked the characters because most of them had their own personalities and didn't just feel like background. The main character goes through many difficult situations. These situations force her to make hard decisions. Even if I did not agree with every choice, I still understood why she made them.
I also enjoyed the relationships between different characters because there is romance friendship trust betrayal and, teamwork mixed together in a way that is balanced. The romance never fully takes over the story. The film stays connected to the main plot.
So the acting was solid, everyone played their roles well, I stayed invested throughout the trilogy. Some supporting characters became my favorites. They were memorable. They did not get a huge amount of screen time.

Visually I think all three movies looked quite good the futuristic tech costumes as well as environments were kind of impressive without really feeling too unrealistic. I liked the locations in the trilogy. They expanded the field of from the beginning.
The visual effects have aged well and you can tell these movies came out about ten years ago but they still look nice I think. Some action sequences and, simulations were creative.
So the soundtrack's music fits the scene's mood at times. Background music can make a difference. I think these movies handled it. It worked.
Now let's talk about each movie individually.
Divergent (2014)
This one was my favorite of the three, it does a great job introducing in today's society and still tells an exciting story. Everything felt fresh. I was learning about this universe for the first time. The pacing is good. The action entertains. It leaves me wanting the next movie rights away.
Insurgent (2015)
The second movie gets bigger in scale with more action higher stakes and more mysteries. I enjoyed this one nearly as much as the first movie. Some parts moved fast. It kept the momentum going.
Allegiant (2016)
People have mixed opinions about this movie but I still liked watching it. I will admit it feels different compared to the first two films The direction of the story changes. Some ideas worked well while others could have been explored more.
It wasn't a bad movie for me, but I do think it was the weakest of the trilogy.

Throughout the trilogy I really appreciated that it constantly asks interesting questions about identity, freedom, leadership, and how society should function, but it is not just an action series with explosions every few minutes, it keeps that going. There are ideas behind the story. They make you think after the movie ends.
The trilogy is not perfect.
So sometimes certain events happen a bit too conveniently and a few characters do not receive as much development as I would have liked there were moments where I wished the movies slowed down and spent more time explaining certain things. Some plot points felt rushed. That was especially true in the later parts of the series.
I also understand why some viewers were disappointed with how everything progressed across the trilogy I will not go into details because of spoilers but can see both sides of the discussion.
Still I never felt bored while watching these movies that is one of the biggest compliments I can give. Every movie kept me interested. I wanted to go to the next one. I did not want long breaks.
So if you like science fiction mixed with action mystery and a bit of romance then the Divergent trilogy is worth a look it might not be everyone's favorite but it has all things related to and, characters that stick with you.
CONCLUSION
Overall, I enjoyed watching all three films the first one is definitely my favorite the second keeps the excitement going and the third isn't quite as strong but I don't regret spending my time on it. Sometimes it feels nice to watch a movie series. It entertains you. It also makes you think about the choices people make. It shows the kind of society people want to live in.
