A Satire on Society and Ourselves | Review: Mickey 17 [ENG/ESP]
Una Sátira Poco Convencional pero que Hace muy Buen Trabajo
Hey, qué tal gente!! Espero se encuentren todo absolutamente bien y que estén disfrutando de su día. En esta ocasión, como ya saben por el título del post, venimos con una nueva review de una película a la que le tenía muchas ganas, Mickey 17, escrita y dirigida por Bong Joon-ho también conocido por dirigir Parasite, y protagonizada por Robert Pattinson que una vez más resalta con sus habilidades actorales para interpretar a sus personajes. Como siempre les digo, se van a encontrar con algunos spoilers así que no has visto la película todavía te recomiendo a que vayas a verla y luego vuelvas.
An unconventional satire that does a very good job.
Hey, what's up folks!!! I hope you are all absolutely fine and that you are enjoying your day. This time, as you know from the title of the post, we come with a new review of a movie I was really looking forward to, Mickey 17, written and directed by Bong Joon-ho also known for directing Parasite, and starring Robert Pattinson who once again stands out with his acting skills to play his characters. As I always tell you, you are in for some spoilers so if you haven't seen the movie yet I recommend you go see it and then come back.
Como siempre digo, primero es lo primero, y lo primero es saber de qué va Mickey 17. Mickey Barnes es un “prescindible” en un viaje espacial que están realizando para poder habitar un planeta llamado Niflheim. ¿El trabajo de Mickey? Ser usado como muñeco de prueba para todos los casos que sean completamente riesgosos para la vida o dolorosos, Mickey será replicado cada vez que muera una y otra vez hasta llegar al planeta conservando la mayoría de sus recuerdos.
A ver, a simple vista no parece una trama más del montón, quizás para algunos sí pero para mí no es así, la verdad cuando vi el tráiler (está ve si me encargue de verlo primero antes de ver la película) me pareció bastante interesante ver las aventuras de Mickey en todo ese trayecto y me interesó saber cuál sería el desenlace de esta historia. Antes de verla hablé con un amigo y me dijo que esperaba más pero le gusto y estuvo bien, a decir verdad eso me bajo un poco el hype que le tenía a la película porque él también ve las películas como si fuese un crítico altamente calificado al igual que yo xd.
As I always say, first things first, and the first thing is to know what Mickey 17 is all about. Mickey Barnes is an “expendable” on a space journey they are making in order to inhabit a planet called Niflheim. Mickey's job? To be used as a test dummy for all cases that are completely life-threatening or painful, Mickey will be replicated every time he dies over and over again until he reaches the planet while retaining most of his memories.
At first glance it doesn't look like just another plot of the bunch, maybe for some it is but for me it's not, the truth when I saw the trailer (this is if I took care to see it first before watching the movie) I found it quite interesting to see the adventures of Mickey in all that journey and I was interested to know what would be the outcome of this story. Before watching it I talked to a friend and he told me that he expected more but he liked it and it was good, to tell the truth that lowered a little the hype I had for the movie because he also watches movies as if he was a highly qualified critic like me xd.
SourceLa película es entretenida e interesante, porque sí, lo es, pero digamos que se toma su tiempo en absolutamente toda la película; ojo, no estoy diciendo que sea aburrida ni mucho menos, al contrario, pero sí no cuenta con ningún tipo de apuros y te va contando su historia a su manera y a su ritmo. No esperes una película llena de acción o algo por el estilo, porque Mickey 17 no es una película de acción, sí, tiene alguna que otra escena de acción pero muy corta el fuerte de la película es la ciencia ficción y la comedia.
Es la primera vez que veo una película de este director, no recuerdo haber visto otras y según mi investigación refuerzo ese pensamiento, pero a decir verdad, me pareció muy muy interesante la forma que tiene Bong Joon-ho de aportar su arte a este fantástico medio como lo son las películas. Me atrevo a decir que Mickey 17 es una sátira a muchos aspectos de la sociedad, el ejemplo más claro y fácil de percibir es el del mismo Mickey, una persona que está “trabajando” como alguien “prescindible” que puede ser desechado en cualquier momento y cuando sea necesario, en una de las escenas vemos como apenas al salir de la recicladora solo vive 15 minutos reforzando aún más este pensamiento.
The movie is entertaining and interesting, because yes, it is, but let's say that it takes its time in absolutely all the movie; eye, I am not saying that it is boring or much less, on the contrary, but it does not have any kind of rush and it tells its story in its own way and at its own pace. Don't expect a movie full of action or anything like that, because Mickey 17 is not an action movie, yes, it has some action scenes but very short, the strong point of the movie is science fiction and comedy.
It is the first time I see a film by this director, I do not remember having seen others and according to my research I reinforce that thought, but to tell the truth, I found it very very interesting the way Bong Joon-ho brings his art to this fantastic medium such as movies. I dare to say that Mickey 17 is a satire to many aspects of society, the clearest and easiest example to perceive is that of Mickey himself, a person who is “working” as someone “expendable” who can be discarded at any time and when necessary, in one of the scenes we see how just after leaving the recycler only lives 15 minutes further reinforcing this thought.
SourceKenneth Marshall es la gran representación de un dictador que trabaja en función de su propio bien sin importar los métodos que utilice para obtener lo que desea, aquí lo vemos representado más que como un líder diría como un “ser digno de adoración”, con el toque cómico de la película claro está, que simplemente hace lo que quiere y absolutamente nadie se atreve a cuestionarlo, situación que se ha vivido a lo largo de la con muchos “lideres” e incluso me atrevería a decir en la actualidad existen muchos Kenneth Marshall. La sociedad por su parte también sigue esta misma corriente siendo sometidos e incluso actuando muchas con miedo o con suplicas como vemos al inicio de la película.
Más lejos de ser una película cómica, diría que es la personificación de la crítica a la sociedad misma perfectamente enmascarada pero que se deba ver son sutileza para que el mensaje pueda llegar. El hecho de que los alienígenas no hayan asesinado a Mickey y le hayan salvado la vida es otra representación a los humanos, quienes sí actuamos por nuestro propio beneficio sin importar muchas veces lo que tengamos que hacer, esto se ve aún más reflejado en el clímax final donde mama alienígena no distingue si está bien o no haber salvado a Mickey, dejando aún más claro lo que vengo diciendo.
Kenneth Marshall is the great representation of a dictator who works for his own good regardless of the methods he uses to get what he wants, here we see him represented more as a leader than as a “being worthy of worship”, with the comic touch of the film of course, who simply does what he wants and absolutely no one dares to question him, a situation that has been experienced throughout history with many “leaders” and I would even dare to say that there are currently many Kenneth Marshall. Society for its part also follows this same trend being subdued and even acting many with fear or with pleas as we see at the beginning of the film.
Far from being a comedic film, I would say it is the epitome of criticism of society itself perfectly masked but must be seen with subtlety in order for the message to get through. The fact that the aliens have not killed Mickey and have saved his life is another representation to humans, who do act for our own benefit regardless of what we often have to do, this is further reflected in the final climax where alien mom does not distinguish whether it is right or wrong to have saved Mickey, making it even clearer what I have been saying.
SourceLas interpretaciones de los personajes es algo magnifica, lo que más resaltan por su parte son Robert Pattinson y Marck Ruffalo, estos dos una vez más hacen un excelente trabajo. Ruffalo resalta como el villano de la historia satirizando a un político fracasado que tiene absoluto control en la tripulación, cada vez que sale en escena lo hace para dejar una buena interpretación tanto así que un momento comienzas a odiar a Marshall. Robert Pattinson, interpreta diferentes versiones de Mickey dejando características distintas en cada replica que sale en pantalla siendo las más notoria diferencia entre Mickey 17 y 18 dejando claro su rango actoral y la capacidad que tiene para adaptarse a cada papel que lleva a la pantalla grande.
Sin duda alguna, cuando ves Mickey 17 como la película que es en realidad no quedas con inconforme, al contrario, quedas completamente satisfecho. Sí, es cierto que puede llegar a cansarte un poquito por el ritmo que se toma pero créeme que si la ves con otra perspectiva te va a encartar este película de Bong Joon-ho, es entretenida y te presenta una visión de la sociedad que pocos se atreven a hacer.
The performances of the characters is something magnificent, what stands out the most are Robert Pattinson and Mark Ruffalo, these two once again do an excellent job. Ruffalo stands out as the villain of the story satirizing a failed politician who has absolute control over the crew, every time he goes on stage he does it to leave a good performance so much so that one moment you start to hate Marshall. Robert Pattinson, plays different versions of Mickey leaving different characteristics in each replica that comes on screen being the most notorious difference between Mickey 17 and 18 making clear his acting range and the ability he has to adapt to each role he takes to the big screen.
Undoubtedly, when you see Mickey 17 as the film that it really is, you will not be dissatisfied, on the contrary, you will be completely satisfied. Yes, it is true that you may get a little tired because of the pace it takes, but believe me, if you see it with a different perspective you will love this film by Bong Joon-ho, it is entertaining and presents a vision of society that few dare to do.
SourceRecomiendo verla, aunque si no te gustan este tipo de películas y el tráiler no te agradó tanto, me atrevería a decir que le dieras una oportunidad solo si quieres arriesgarte, por el contrario, no lo hagas, no te estarías perdiendo una maravilla pero sí una buena obra de arte. I recommend watching it, although if you don't like this kind of movies and the trailer didn't please you that much, I would dare to say that you should give it a chance only if you want to take a risk, otherwise, don't do it, you wouldn't be missing a marvel but a good work of art.
