A Different Superman on the Big Screen
A few days ago, I had the opportunity to go to the movies after such a long time, and what better way to take advantage of the premiere of the new Superman movie? So, I found myself going to enjoy DC's latest release on the big screen. To tell you the truth, although I expected a little more, it was a movie that fulfilled its purpose and does not stick to realism but rather leans more toward the type of story it represents: fiction. Below, there will be a few spoilers, so if you continue reading, do so at your own risk. Consider yourself warned.
Un Superman Diferente en la Gran Pantalla
Hace unos días tuve la oportunidad de ir al cine luego de tanto tiempo, y qué mejor para aprovechar el estreno de la nueva película de Superman, así que me vi en la tarea de ir y disfrutar de lo nuevo de DC en la pantalla grande, a decir verdad, aunque esperaba un poco más, fue una película que cumplió con su cometido y no se apega a lo realista si no que se va mas por el tipo de historia que representa, ficción. A continuación, vendrán algunos cuantos spoilers así que, si siguen leyendo, que sea bajo su responsabilidad, conste que le dije.
SourceSuperman focuses on the life of Clark Kent, who has been Superman in Metropolis for three years and has gained some experience as a superhero and journalist. In the trailers, we see many characters introduced into the scene, and in this universe, meta-humans already exist, and we even see the Justice Gang's headquarters and several representations of them. Many may have believed that with so many characters included in the story, rather than a Superman story, it would be a kind of premature Justice League, but the truth is that it is not.
Despite featuring so many characters, Superman is a Superman movie. The main character does not lose any of his prominence without neglecting the other characters (we will talk about them later). In this film, we explore Superman's moral conflict and see a more human side of the character, someone more vulnerable and trusting of people, which seems to me to be a different approach to what we were used to in the previous Superman film, which saw him more as a deity than anything else. This film does not stray into realism in its portrayal of the characters, but rather stays in its own territory, fiction, without the need to seek such logical explanations for things.
Superman, nos centra en la vida de un Clark Kent que ya lleva tres años como Superman en Metrópolis y digamos tiene ya algo de experiencia en el área siendo superhéroe y periodista. En los trailers vemos a muchos personajes introducidos en escena, y es que en este universo ya existen los meta humanos y hasta vemos en salón de la Justice Gang y varias representaciones de los mismos, muchos habrán creído que por tener tantos personajes incluidos en la historia más que una historia de Superman iba a ser como una especie de liga de la justicia prematura pero la es verdad es que no.
Superman, a pesar de presentar tantos personajes, es una película de Superman. El personaje principal no pierde nada de protagonismo sin descuidar a los otros personajes (más a delante hablaremos de ellos). En esta película exploraremos el conflicto moral de Superman, y veremos un lado más humano del personaje, alguien más vulnerable y confianzudo con las personas lo cual me parece un enfoque distinto al que el anterior Superman nos tenía acostumbrados y su visión más en una deidad que cualquier otra cosa. Esta película no roza en la línea realista en la representación de los personajes, sino que va más a su propio terreno, la ficción, sin la necesidad de buscarle tanta explicación realmente lógica a las cosas.
SourceI think David Corenwet's casting as the new Superman is great. He did a good job portraying both the superhero and the somewhat clumsy journalist, and he does a good job in both roles. On the other hand, Nicholas Hoult as Lex Luthor is an impressive casting choice. I'm not very familiar with all the Superman characters, as he's the superhero I've seen the least throughout my life, but I can say that I've seen a few movies and animated series, and I really liked his performance as Lex Luthor, to the point where I would dare to say that he shines in the role.
Despite not neglecting Superman as the main character, I feel that at the same time it tried to cover a little bit of everything and ended up doing almost nothing. For me, the film is well balanced in terms of screen time and the participation of each character, but I would have liked to see a little more of Superman on screen. The Justice Gang plays a big part and helps Superman in the midst of all the conflict. Green Lantern, Mr. Terrific, and Hawk Girl shine when they make an appearance without completely overshadowing Superman when they are alongside him. Krypto is simply Krypto and is great, used with the power of the script when necessary, but without seeming so obvious.
El cast de David Corenwet como el nuevo Superman me parece genial, hizo un buen trabajo representando al superhéroe y a la vez al periodista medio torpe, en ambas facetas cumple bien con su trabajo. Por otro lado, Nicholas Hoult como Lex Luthor es un cast impresionante, no estoy muy familiarizado con todos los personajes de Superman ya que es el superhéroe que menos he visto a lo largo de toda mi vida pero puedo decir que vi algunas que otras películas y series animadas, y esta actuación como Lex Luthor me gustó muchísimo hasta llegar al punto de atreverme a decir que brilla por el ello.
A pesar de no dejar de lado a Superman como personaje principal siento que a la vez quiso abarca un poco de todo y termina haciendo casi nada. Para mí la película está bien balanceada en cuanto al tiempo en pantalla o la participación de cada personaje, pero me habría gustado ver un poco más de Superman en la pantalla, la Justice Gang tiene gran participación y ayudan a Superman en medio de todo el conflicto. Green Lantern, Mr. Terrific y Hawk Girl brillan cuando hacen acto de presencia sin opacar por completo a Superman cuando están junto a él. Krypto simplemente es Krypto y es genial, usado con el poder del guion cuando es necesario, pero sin parecer tan obvio.
SourceThe film is neither slow nor fast, maintaining a consistent pace, which I really appreciate. I wasn't bored at any point while watching it in the cinema. It made me laugh a few times and almost brought me to tears in some scenes. Superman is entertaining, striking a balance between story, action, and character development. It has the great advantage of not telling the typical origin story of the characters (good for some, bad for others) and shows a different side of the character.
The effects are also something to consider. They're generally very good, but in some parts you can see the CGI, although the fact that it's a good movie makes up for it. Still, visually it's a bit jarring, it makes some noise, but this time I'll let it slide because it's a good movie (you're not The Flash, you're a completely different case). The soundtrack is very catchy. I had heard some of it before seeing the movie in the theater, and honestly, it's quite fun. You could say that the songs they selected for the movie, especially PunkRocker and the classic Superman theme with slight changes, are great.
La película no es lenta pero tampoco es rápida, mantiene un ritmo consistente y eso lo aprecio mucho, no me aburrí en ningún momento en el cine mientras veía la película, logró sacarme unas cuantas risas y casi hacerme llorar de la emoción en algunas escenas. Superman entretiene, tiene un balance entre historia, acción, desarrollo de personajes, cuenta con el grandioso punto de no contar la típica historia de origen de los personajes (bueno para algunos y malo para otros) y muestra una faceta diferente del personaje.
Los efectos veo que también son un punto a tener en cuenta, por lo general están muy bien pero en algunas partes se nota el CGI aunque el hecho de que sea una buena película lo compensa pero igual visualmente pega un poco, hace algo de ruido, esta vez se lo paso por ser buena película (tu no The Flash eres caso completamente aparte). El soundtrack es muy pegajoso, había escuchado algo ante de verla en el cine y la verdad es que es bastante divertido, podría decirse, las canciones que seleccionaron para la película, en especial PunkRocker y el tema clásico de Superman con ligeros cambios.
SourceThe decision to change Superman's origin with that damaged message and its true meaning seems a bit drastic to me, but at the same time it contributes to the narrative arc of this Superman and serves as a turning point in the direction he must take: whether to listen to his real parents or do the right thing. The costume design is another plus, although I can't quite get used to him wearing the jockstrap. Given the film's aesthetic, it's a costume that works quite well.
Overall, Superman is a good movie. It manages to entertain with its characters, good pacing, and action scenes, even though most of them involve watching Superman get beaten up, which is quite entertaining. Superman is nothing like the previous films (Man of Steel). It takes the character down a different path and explores facets that Snyder's Superman didn't have or that we saw very little of. This film also stands out for the same reason it falls short: with so many characters, it must strike a balance between the main character, Superman, and the other characters who appear outside the hero's circle.
La decisión de cambiar el origen de Superman con eso del mensaje dañado y su verdadero significado me parece algo drástico que hacer, pero a la vez aporta al arco narrativo de este Superman y funciona como punto de inflexión sobre el rumbo que debe tomar, si hacerle caso a sus verdaderos padres o hacer lo correcto. El diseño del traje me parece otro punto a favor, aunque no termino de acostumbrarme a que lleve los calzones para la estética que maneja la película es un traje que funciona bastante bien.
En términos generales, Superman es una buena película, logra entretener con sus personajes, buen ritmo y escenas de acción a pesar de que mayormente sea viendo como le dan una paliza a Superman son bastantes entretenidas. Superman no es nada parecida a las anteriores (Man of Steel) lleva al personaje por un camino diferente y explora facetas que el Superman de Snyder no las tenía o las veíamos muy muy poco. Esta película también en lo que resalta es lo mismo que cojea, al tener tantos personajes debe tener un balance entre lo principal, Superman, y los demás personajes que salen del círculo del mismo héroe.
SourceAt times, it may seem like you're not watching a Superman movie but rather a mini Justice League, giving the impression that it tries to cover too much ground but loses its way in the process. After all, Superman is an entertaining movie, ideal for watching with friends or perfectly enjoyable on your own.
As usual, I recommend watching it, although I would also dare to say that if you don't watch it, it's no big deal. For now, you're not missing out on anything, unless a future DC Universe movie is a direct sequel to Superman, but until then, you can live in peace. En ocasiones puede parecer que no estás viendo una película de Superman sino más bien como una mini Liga de la Justicia, da la sensación de que querer abarcar mucho pero perderse en el camino por lo mismo. Después de todo, Superman es una película entretenida, ideal para ver con amigos o perfectamente solo y disfrutarla igual.
Como es de costumbre recomiendo verla aunque también me atrevería a decir que si no la vez tampoco pasa nada, por el momento no te pierdes de nada a menos que en un futuro alguna película de universo de DC sea un continuación directa de Superman pero hasta entonces puedes vivir en paz. Pero recuerde, esta es mi opinión al respecto de Superman y me gustaría saber qué tal te pareció, te invito a comentar en la parte de abajo y así poder intercambiar diferentes puntos de vista.
