The Woman King

The Woman King is a Hollywood historical drama that focuses on the combat unit of all female warriors that defends and protect their nation from external aggressions. Their Leader, being suffered a lot but determined to make a difference, trains his warriors, Agojies and they fight to liberate their people too.

The movie is released in the year 2022 and directed by Gina Prince Bethywood and reviewed by Diana Stevens. The story is narrated by Maria Bello. It wins awards and top many countries' charts.

Plot
In the 1820s, At the west African nation of Dahomey. A well trained and respectable unit of all females warriors protect the town against the invading enemies.

The Europeans especially the Portuguese, Spanish, British etc visited Africa for trade. Their main article of trade was slave. They empower a strong African nation with guns to enslave their brothers and sisters and sell to them. Slaves are taken to the Latin American to work as domestics and in the farms.

Oyo empires under their war general simply known as Oba collects tributes for his principal. He invades smaller villages and towns, took them as slave for the whites. But the Agojies of the Dahomey keep resisting him to his shame as he think that woman should be below man and Dahomey is a small town in comparison with Oyo empires.

Nawi, a young girl who resist the notion of marrying an old man. Marrying an old man is the way of raising money to care for the family. Her adopted father became very angry and offer her as a gift to the king to serve as a Agojie. A female warrior under Nanisca, the General and Izojie, their trainer and second in command. Nawi see the training so absurb and have a new ways of doing things. She was punished repeatedly by Nanisca but in the course of the training, Nanisca found out that Nawi is her lost daughter. Izojie really loved Nawi and train her very well and encourage her with motivational words.

Oba, Oyo warrior leader doubled the Dahomean tributes and request that Agojie to be part of it and he will sell them at higher price to the whites. Nanisca encourages the young king, king Ghezo is a brilliant young king with numerous wives like other African Kings. He respects Nanisca and she show him another way of making the town wealthy by palm oil business.

Nawi develops her warring skills and emerged the winner of the award during their graduation ceremony as Agojie which was attended by protugesse sailor and half Dahomean named Malik, who fall in love with Nawi at the forest. Although it is forbidden, she sneak to visit Malik.

At the Oyo Outpost, the Agojie and other Dahomean soldier launch a surprise attack on Oyo warriors and killed a large number of them but Oba took some as Izojie, Nawi and others as slave while other Dahomean celebrate their win. Wounded Izojie was encouraged by Nawi for an escape. But, Izojie was killed as she tries to save the slowed Nawi at the escape from their port.

Nanisca heard that some of her agojies are held at the Port defied the king's order and honor to rescue her arrested agojies. With the help of others, she rescue them and destroy the port. Later, She was honered as the Woman king, siting beside her beloved king while other Dahomeans cheered them up.
