Psycho Therapy||the gullible writer

Hi guys, I have been watching a comedy movie. This one I have just finished watching is quite different from those I have watched or seen before.

Though, this one which i just finished watching is a mixture of comedy and little tragedy. But instead of calling it a tragicomedy movie, I would call it black comedy. The title of the movie in question is Psycho Therapy. The movie, a 2024 black comedy film was written, directed and produced by Tolga Karacelik and it's a very good job by him.

The movie starred actors like Steve Buscemi, Britt Lower and John Magaro. These characters and the other minor characters acted their roles to the best of their performances and I gave them 3 of the 5 stars.

THE PLOT

The movie Psycho Therapy is all about a man named Keane who's a writer in the film.This man was fond of writing that he wanted to write about a Slovenian Neanderthal but his agent was hellbent on not writing about the Slovenian Neanderthal, but instead, he advised him to write on a more sexy story. It's in his interaction with his agent David that one man called Kollmick came to him.

This man named Kollmick told him he's one of his fans and that he had read most of his books, he even asked him about what his next work would be, but he told him a writer doesn't tell people about his ongoing work.

So, after that, both left the scene and went their separate ways. On getting home, Keane was happy about meeting one of his fans and he told his wife about everything, but his wife, Suzie was not happy about his lifestyle and she told him that she wants a divorce, when Keane heard her saying this, he was shocked and asked his wife what might have prompted her action.

It's in response to his question that she opened up on what has been bothering her mind about her taking all the family decisions with her husband about the family matter. The husband told her that it's because of his trust for her that he took the trust of all the family into her hand, but even at that, the wife was not ready to rescind her decision on the issue as she was prepared for the divorce.

Not long after this, Keane went to a restaurant and it's at the restaurant that he met Kollmick when promised to help him with his next suggested book which was about a serial killer, he told him that he was a retired serial killer and that he would help him with the book.

Kollmick told him that if he wants to be a good writer, he must practicalize what he wants to write about. After the discussion, they both left the restaurant on the instruction of the restaurant attendant who told them they had closed for the day.

So, they both decided to move their discussion outside and this was what they did till they got to Keane's house which they both entered without the wife's permission. The wife got up from bed and saw a stranger, she questioned the stranger and asked him.who brought him in.

It's in this process that the husband cane from the rest room and in seeing his wife questioning Kollmick, he told a lie that kollmick was a marriage counselor whom he brought in to save their marriage, though, Kollmick insisted he was not a marriage counselor but a serial killer counselor, but he was stopped and interrupted by Keane.

Immediately after the discussion, Kollmick excused himself and left, but Keane saw him off and they both decided on where to see each other. When he got back into the house, the wife was surprised at his action, telling him it's his first time taking action alone without her.

So, the following day, he, Keane went to see the man and they both discussed the marriage counseling session after he had pleaded with him. At first the man, Kollmick was reluctant but he later agreed after Keane had promised to write the book telling him the title of the book.

They both went home for the session and they have two session, but that was not the plan as they were also planning on how to carry out their sinister plan which they later did, but at the end, the wife got to know of their plan after she had trailed the husband from when he left the house to the last scene where one of their kidnapped victims was not as lucky as David, after he was being shot by Suzie herself, but David and the hotel security man were left unhurt.

ANALYSIS

The movie is an interesting one that revolves around a weak personality called Keane. Although Keane was a very good and gentle man, who has passion for writing, his gullibility to me is second to none.

He was not even manly enough to guide his home talkless of dealing with others in the society. His gullibility can be seen right from the start of the movie when he was at the traffic light where he was stopped by a red light.

So, right in the car, when he had looked away, the wife told her that the green light had passed them and immediately he heard the wife saying this, he moved the vehicle and it's the grace of God that saved him and the wife. It's when the wife was telling him that she wanted a divorce that she explained to him that the light was still red when she told him it's green.

Although he responded that it's because of his trust for the wife that he moved the vehicle. But can we actually call this one trust, or gullibility? To me it's an act of gullibility as he should have even tried to see for himself.

I would still have doubted his gullibility in the first scene and action, but what happened between him and his Kollmick who had convinced him to practice serial killings and kidnapping before he could write a story about a serial killer took me out of my doubt and it's so obvious that this man didn't really have a mind of his own as he believed in what the man said and do accordingly.

I would have called him a fool$h man, but just to save my word. His behavior in the movie was like that of a kid, who can be toyed with.

Kollmick really toyed with his life and he even dictated every move to him. It's only at one point in the movie that I saw him turning down Kollmick's opinion. This only point was when he said he would not leave the car without Kollmick following him after that scene, nothing else was of his decision. All his action in the movie was being controlled either by his wife or Kollmick. He was controlled even to the extent that he went on to commit atrocities that might send him to jail.

Though he has good intentions and passion for writing, this passion became bad because of his gullibility. Also, drawing his wife, Suzie to kill one of the kidnap victims shows that he's a bad influence to the wife as Kollmick also served as a bad influence on him too.

Though the movie is an interesting one, the end was not that clear as we were not aware of what happened to David, Keane's agent at the end of the movie. But even at that, the movie is an interesting one and I would love to watch it over and over again.

THEME

The central theme of the movie is gullibility. In the movie, we can see how gullible the major character was, he was gullible in and out and can not take any decision on his own without being controlled by others.

Love is another theme of the movie. We can see in the movie that Keane loved his wife and the wife also showed him love at the end, even after she had told him she had wanted him on many occasions.

Deception is another theme in the movie which can be seen in the way Keane deceived his wife by lying to her that Kollmick was a marriage counselor.

Kollmick also displayed this. Also, the wife's confessions about her trying to kill him was another form of deception. Murder is another theme and this can be seen in the way one of the kidnapped victims was murdered by Suzie.

Also, friendship is another theme in the movie, we can see this in the way Suzie and Zoe related all through the movie. One thing I love about the movie is the pictures which are crystal clear, but the act of lawlessness that was not put to check in the movie really pissed me off as no security agent or officer was seen in the movie that has a crime scene.

It's too pathetic to have a lawless society without a law enforcement agent. But altogether, it's an interesting black comedy movie.
