Cinema as Solitude: Why Movies Became My Constant Companion

Today's topic is why I love watching movies, or you could say why I love watching movies on the first day, first show. I love all types of movies, and movies aren't just a source of entertainment for me; they're my companion. Whenever I feel lonely or like I have no one with me, I go to watch a movie alone. It doesn't matter if the movie is good or bad; I don't consider that. I just focus on watching it in the theater because every film has something good in it somewhere. It's just a matter of perspective. Sometimes I watch a comedy film, sometimes a good sci-fi movie from which I learn a lot. Sometimes I watch a movie that isn't particularly good, but even then, I feel like I should watch it because movies show you certain things, and most importantly, sometimes movies give you many ideas that you can even apply in real life.

One of the biggest reasons I like watching movies, or you could say it's the only reason I enjoy watching movies, is that when the weekends come, I don't have many close friends to hang out with or do things with. So I always go to the movies alone, or I find a partner to watch with. I watch movies, sometimes web series, at home or on OTT platforms like Amazon Prime, Netflix, Jio Hotstar, etc. But sometimes I prefer watching movies alone. I really like certain types of movies, especially those with a sad ending or a very emotional ending. I always prefer watching movies in a dark or dimly lit room. That way, I can focus completely on the movie.

I often prefer Hollywood movies because they make more sense, or you could say they have better choreography. They also have bigger budgets and higher production values. The editing is good; the sound quality is excellent. The songs are authentic. The ending is great. The acting is top-notch, and a lot of money is invested in it. All the movies are so good that you have to choose between Bollywood and Hollywood, and I always choose Hollywood because if you're getting good content for the same price, why wouldn't you? It makes more sense because you get better value for your money. Hollywood movies have always been good, and some people watch Hollywood movies dubbed in Hindi. But I believe that the Hindi dubbing ruins the movie experience because many of the dialogues are changed. That's why I always recommend watching English movies in English, because you get the original dialogues and the authenticity you expect from a movie.

The second reason I like watching movies is the storytelling. You build a character, you weave the story around them, and how well-written it is. The writer of a movie spends years writing it, and that movie ends up making tons of money. Therefore, I think that if we appreciate the characters in movies and the actors who portray them, we should also appreciate the writer behind it. The writer, who spends years writing a movie, deserves direct appreciation, as does the director, for their direction. Because if the director isn't good, no matter how good the actors or other elements are, the film won't be successful. We often overlook this crucial aspect. We rarely appreciate the writer of a movie. We don't acknowledge the director's copyright. This is very important because they are the ones who determine the course of the movie; they know how the movie was made and how it will perform.

And lastly, I would also like to say that I have been watching movies since childhood. When I was younger, I really liked entertainment movies. Now, my taste has become quite different, and I've noticed that my character has become much more serious. Nowadays, I like sci-fi movies, movies that are a bit sad, movies with some emotion, and movies that remind me of certain phases of my life, certain people, and certain feelings. They are like bookmarks of an emotional journey. Watching movies is not just about killing time for me; it's about understanding life better. I gain understanding; I get that time for reflection, and I enjoy it. Many people have different kinds of hobbies, and similarly, I have a great fondness for watching movies. It gives me a different kind of perspective, a different kind of feeling. Every movie represents its country, its time period, and its life and shows you how you can see that place and what the culture is like there. If a movie is made there, it's wonderful. Everyone enjoys watching a movie.
