[ESP/ENG] Crítica a ATACAMA (Película)/ Review of ATACAMA (Film).

ATACAMA es una película dirigida por el venezolano Enrique Bencomo (Pipí Mil Pupu 2 Lucas, Muerete en Casa), rodada en el desierto de Atacama (Chile) con equipo y recursos mínimos. El film tiene lugar en la locación ya mencionada y que le da nombre, centrada en 4 personajes diferentes y sin ninguna conexión entre ellos que se cruzarán los unos con los otros al ser consumidos y superados por la ambición, los conflictos familiares y la soledad en medio del desierto.

Lo más llamativo de esta película es que transcurre casi en su totalidad en exteriores, en los que sabe hacer uso de la composición que ofrecen los horizontes y de la luz natural del desierto. Visualmente hablando, también son llamativos la puesta en escena y montaje, mucho más sobrios que en las producciones anteriores de Bencomo, demostrando mucha madurez como director, pese a que en algunos la edición llega a crear confusión en lo que se debe dar a entender.

Si nos vamos a la narrativa, las formas en que los personajes se entrelazan logran ser inteligentes en buena medida, además de aprovechar los pocos recursos materiales del lugar y un reparto limitado para crear una historia tensa y condensada.

ATACAMA es una propuesta interesante dentro del cine latinoamericano de bajo presupuesto, siendo un incentivo para los nuevos realizadores acerca de crear y narrar historias humanas con pocos recursos. ATACAMA is a film directed by Venezuelan Enrique Bencomo (Pipí Mil Pupu 2 Lucas, Muerete en Casa), shot in the Atacama Desert (Chile) with minimal equipment and resources. The film takes place in the aforementioned location that gives it its name, focusing on 4 different characters with no connection between them that will cross each other as they are consumed and overcome by ambition, family conflicts and loneliness in the middle of the desert.

The most striking thing about this film is that it takes place almost entirely on location, where he knows how to make use of the composition offered by the horizons and the natural light of the desert. Visually speaking, the staging and editing are also striking, much more sober than in Bencomo's previous productions, demonstrating great maturity as a director, although in some cases the editing creates confusion in what should be understood.

If we go to the narrative, the ways in which the characters intertwine manage to be intelligent to a good extent, in addition to taking advantage of the few material resources of the place and a limited cast to create a tense and condensed story.

ATACAMA is an interesting proposal within the low-budget Latin American cinema, being an incentive for new filmmakers to create and narrate human stories with few resources. Fortunately for those interested, the film is available on YouTube and here is its trailer.
