Mission Impossible The Final Reckoning
Watched Mission impossible Final reckoning and I thought it was a lot of fun. Yes, the initial half does have a lot of exposition and is slower but I was engaged throughout. The second half picks up the pace with some fantastic action sequences esp the submarine scene and the old plane one. I didn't expect this movie to have tie ins to past MI movies esp the first one and even the third, that was interesting. The performances were really good, the story was straightforward. This does look like the final MI movie and in that case, it definitely goes out with a bang. I was nervous when I found out Lorne Balfe wouldn’t be scoring this one, but Max Aruj and Alfie Godfrey cooked. The Rolling submarine and Plane Chase were awesome. Not sure how I feel about them as a finale though like, for a franchise where Tom Cruise literally jumped from the edge of The Earth’s atmosphere, this was a pretty underwhelming final stunt. This movie did the best justice to Ethan’s character since Fallout
Both the guy who shook his hand at the end (even after Ethan had killed his dad) and the old man who was living near the submarine practically tie up the entire series’s writing perfectly by telling Ethan “your decisions and actions actually changed our lives for the better”
The writing and long term storytelling effort McQuarrie put up for these movies is the best thing to happen to action movies in a while
Gonna be fun to see what McQuarrie does next. That’s if he doesn’t continue the franchise with a new lead since Tom said he’s done.
