I didn't like the music in the intro. It didn't set the stage for me or create any anticipation and I wanted it to stop(small but noticeable). I've heard people say there are three jump scares. I only noticed one. It felt like a thriller that never reaches the point of being a horror. The witch collecting kids but never does anything with them. She said she was dying so I expected her to concoct a potion to steal life essence for life or something, some rhyme or reason. If alex was able to control the kids that means the which herself has no special powers these are just things she does so why would the spell be broken if she dies? I try to only go with what the movie shows me and not go off any assumptions and I don't think we ever got an explanation why she said to him "pack your things, we are leaving tomorrow". Like what was her purpose there, why the family, why did she suddenly feel they had to leave especially if she is dying? I love the multi person perspective it's my favorite thing in cinema but it became a bit repetitive at a certain point to where you longed for the pace to change. Lastly I don't know if others noticed this but the lighting or lack there of became problematic. There were just random dark spots where the camera would focus but nothing every actually happens no glowing eyes, no jump scares, not even ominous music to lull you into curious wonder, just an obstruction on the screen.
