Cinetv Contest: Your Most Favorite Romantic Film

I love watching movies. Ok, romantic movies and comedies. I do love those exciting stuff too like the Jurassic movies, the classics and so on but to destress myself, I watch those romantic comedies, and now that OTT platforms are giving us more than what we can handle sometimes, it is difficult to choose what to watch. I have also felt that the quality is less than what we had before.

There are a few movies that I can never tire of watching and those are

  • The Sound of Music
  • My Fair Lady
  • The Holiday
  • My big fat Greek wedding

There are many more that would make it to the list above but the ones listed above I could watch many times over.

The sound of music was an all-time hit and although there are many plays and stage shows, the movie directed by Robert Wise was the one that broke all records. Five academy awards and more from other prestigious awards.

Why does the movie appeal to me?

The music and songs appeal to me most and I grew up hearing the songs that my elder cousin-brother played on his Gramaphone record. Unfortunately, we did not own a set back then, and seeing my disappointed face, my dad took out some of his savings and bought us a new HMV set. OOH, I remember the excitement of owning our own set, back then but realize now that it must have been a 'heavy' expense back then. Sometimes, memories also bring back forcefully realizations that we were ignorant of as children.

Listening to the songs on the record player as it was called, was a pastime and we used to sit around it on Sunday afternoons to listen to favorite songs. Life was so simple back then. Sometimes, our neighbors used to drop in and enjoy listening to the songs.

I remember wanting to see the movie and could not get hold of a copy until the VCR era came up. Then it was all about renting those video cassettes and watching favorite movies and shows.
If you are a millennial, then you would be wondering what I am talking about but I think we are the ones who grew up watching humans progress from the Radio to the present-day OTT platforms.

I had studied Pygmalion while in college and so, watching the movie - My Fair Lady was a treat. Especially the scene where the Rain in Spain mattered most. If you have not watched it, please do.

The Holiday and My big fat Greek wedding are recent movies that I got to watch and loved that I do watch them now and then. These movies are available on the OTT platforms as well. I leave it to the reader to go watch it instead of writing out the whole story here.

There are a few other language movies from my country that I like but because this is an international platform, I thought of skipping those but it would not hurt to mention movies like Roja, Usthad Hotel, Parineeta.
