All of us love to hear stories and before the onset of technology, we had books but not all people had access to books, and some even if they did, may not have had the time to read them.

Then came the movies or the moving picture as it was known back then. The movie producers wanted to play safe and could not think of having stories that thought ahead of time. So, we got to see many classics that were a picturization of books, especially religion.

Some such works, I shall list below. Check if you have watched them. Although it may seem too old or poor copies, they are still worth watching because it reminds us of a time when wars were raging but people still had the courage to get out and stake everything to produce movies so that the people were entertained.

List

  • The ten commandments
  • To Kill a Mockingbird
  • Pride and Prejudice
  • The Wizard of Oz
  • Singing in the rain

The above was a list from Hollywood. Indian film industry too had tremendous growth and despite all hurdles because of the struggle for Independence and wars and partition, many producers braved all to make films that would create not only stars but also pave the way to inculcate music of a genre that would captivate generations to come.

Bollywood music has fans the world over and companies such as the T series have over 179M subscribers on youtube.

Visual effects have more of an impact on the human mind than a book and people are nowadays more reluctant to read patiently. With less time available these days, feature films are now giving way to OTT platforms and shows, and soaps.

List of Indian classics

  • Pather Panchali - Bengali
  • Maya Bazaar - Telugu
  • Guide - Hindi
  • Sholay - Hindi
  • Chemmeen - Malayalam

I am sure you might have heard of some of these movies. Please do try to watch them. I have not included more because I want to shorten the list and help the reader to choose from a simple list.

I am not much interested in reading more than watching
I like watching movies rather than reading stories and novels
I feel bored of it

Movies do help interpret the book.

I love reading and I read plenty of titles each year now. :)
Films are different. I never thought one could replace the other.

Saw all the hollywood ones but saw only Pather Pachanli from the indian ones.

Yes, movies can not replace books. It has a charm of its own.
