🎬 2026 Movie Review #9 | Our Girls / Voor De Meisjes (2025)

January Movie Marathon Month
I have grown a bit of a tradition in January to watch all the 'Youtuber Top 10 Films Of The Year' videos to catch up with everything that was potentially good in the previous year. I think that I'm at 15 of them so far this year and nearly am done with 2025 movies as there aren't that many left that I feel I really have to watch and I kind of want to move on from them by now.

Our Girls [Voor De Meisjes] (7.9/10)
The Dutch title translated is named "For The Girls" which feels like it's a movie about lesbians which it's not and for the english title they translated it to "Our Girls" which is more suited. The basic of the story and the only thing you really need to know is that it's about 2 couples who meet on vacation in Austria, they become friends and end up buying a vacation home together to make it a yearly tradition to spend a week there together. They both have 1 teenage daughter of the same age who kind of are friends but not really. The daughters get involved in an accident early on in the movie with 1 of them who is in really bad state and has to be put into a coma while the other barely has a scratch. What follows next is the dynamic between the couple totally shifting while things uncover what really happened.

The Cinematography
This movie from start to finish has absolutely beautiful environments and overall cinematography. It really makes you feel like you actually are in Autria on the mountains where it was filmed. I would even go further saying that this movie very much might make me travel there some day. The House on the hill is also a superb setting and it all kind of made me forget that a big part of the movie takes place inside of the hospital also.
The Good Kind of Drama!
I also learned something about myself from this movie as I generally don't like drama movies that haven't got a comedic note to them. The 2 movies I liked the least so far this year were Sentimental Value and No Other Choice which were both Film-snubs full of drama without real reason that can easily be avoided or downplayed. (A bad Father-Daughter relationship & Someone Losing his job). Our Girls however is about real drama of something happening to your kids. It just feels way more real and much easier for me to put myself in their place. So while there was a lot of drama in this movie, it was the good kind of real drama that is relatable.
The Acting!
This was the only real thing that somewhat put me off on this movie as I didn't like the acting of the Belgian husband which just all the time felt super cringe and never really convincing. There are a lot of arguments between the couples with shouting. The Female actors in this regard were just really really good, but the men simply lacked and it kind of was a bit annoying. At the same time, I also didn't make that much of a thing of it and still enjoyed the movie to the fullest.
The Story & Twists!
Going in not knowing not more than what I outlined in this review so far, the story really captured me and kept me watching intrigued from start to finish. The movie also has a couple minor twists in it which were nice and kept things interesting. Some of those are kind of spoiled in the trailer which I didn't see before watching this movie.

Conclusion
Going in without too much expectation, I really was positively surprised by this movie as it captured me in many ways the entire 1 Hour and 43 Minutes runtime. It had beatifully captured environments, an interesting story with the good kind of drama along with some interesting twists. The only bad thing I can say about it is that for me some of the acting was a bit too cringe while at the other side some of the acting was really really good. I'm glad that I watched this one and I actively recommended it to some friends already. A Solid 7.9/10 for me as I really enjoyed watching while it also managed to stick weeks after I watched it!
