This blog is a personal journal of all the movies, Tv-Shows, & Games I consume during a year which enhances my overall experience. The ratings that I give are fully based on my personal preference and enjoyment at the time of watching and I'm writing spoiler-free reviews. So I had a social event on Tuesday which was done way earlier as expected while there was a heat wave. So on my way back home I ended up making the choice to go see the Formula 1 Movie with Brad Pitt as a way to cool down a bit and spend the night as I went for the 22:00 showing. Some of the things that really pulled me through to go watch is are the generally good reviews (7.9 on Imdb) and some youtubers I respect that enjoyed it. It's from the same director as Top Gun Maverick which I skipped on even though that one also got some nice praise (8.2 on Imdb). I used to be a big F1 fan in the past during the Schumacher days and last year while watching part of some races, the filming of this movie was ongoing and highlighted at times. So the combination of Curiosity and the Situation of the day had me spending 15.1€ to go see it on the big screen and for me it was absolutely worth it!

About Sports Movies...

I can't name too many Sports movies especially where the sport is emulated with a crafted story that I enjoyed. Challengers which I watched scored a 7.1 recently is once that surpised me in a good way. Aside from this, the only one that stands out in a really good way is Rush from 2012 which is also a F1 movie but based on a true story and it's really more about the relationship between 2 rivals in a more serious and realstic way.

What I anticipated for F1 Thee Movie was was a much more generic cliché story especially after having watched the trailer before and for it to be of those summer blockbuster movies with great visuals and some humor in it also. That is exactly what it was in a good way.

F1: The Movie (7.7/10)

It's a pretty generic story about an old racer Sonny Hayes playe by Brad Pitt who is brought back to a struggling team to give them some experience and help the young talented team mate. Things are as cliché as you can imagine them where the viewer is guides to sympathings with the old underdog and dislike the young team mate at the start.

However, Brad Pitt plays this role so well that it's very easy to root for him. I related to many aspects of this character as he doesn't care about the money, fame or attention while he's somewhat of a rebel trying to find ways to bend the rules generally being a good guy.

Movie Plot:

A Formula One driver comes out of retirement to mentor and team up with a younger driver.

The F1 Races Plotline

One of the things I was really curious about as someone who watched a lot of races was how they were going to handle the plotlines and situations of the individual races. To my surprise they actually were quite original and not that crazy out of line that it stayed more or less believeable. Everything was also filmed really well and it felt quite possible for this team to actually be among the existing F1 teams. The fact that they blended everything in with the real races of last season also workedquite well and brought added value compared if everything would have been fictional.

Some Good Laughs!

Plenty of time while watching this 2h20 Minute movie which never felt too long I could not help but both have a smile on my face and actually laugh because there was a genuinely funny situation or remark. All of that involved Brad Pitt who played the role really really well. There was also some romance, friendship, bad-guy drama in the film which I didn't really care about that much but also never was annoying.

Conclusion
I would describe this one as just a really good time at the movies for both F1 fans and those who know nothing about the sport. Brad Pitt really shines in his role, everything is filmed beautifully, it's never boring while the race situations stayed interesting. So yeah, even though generic cliché big budget summer blockbuster movies usually aren't really my thing, I enjoyed that way more that I expected and am glad I went to see it on the big screen. It also made me more curious about the Top Gun Movie which I also likely will watch some day. A solid 7.7/10 mostly for the enjoyment and good time this movie game me while at the same time, not too much about it will actually stick with me unlike the Movie Rush which I easily score 8.6+
