🎬 Weapons (2025) | Good Movie, With Even Better Marketing! 🎥

If there is ever a movie that really had me sold, it's this one. The main plotline of children who all dissapear at the same time had me super curious what actually happened. The fact that this movie was from the Director of Barbarian which I absolutely loved as one of my favorite horror movies also was a good sign. The fact that the main poster of the movie looks awesome and the title didn't really made no sense and made me curious. Alml of this with a 8/10 on imdb after 20k votes was enough to set my expectations sky high and I avoided any kind of spoiler going into this one fully blind aside from knowing that is was a horror movie and there were some jumpscares. Initially, I refused to pay 17.80€ for a cinema ticket which I think is just way too expensive. However, my curiosity (and the need to find some cooling down in the evening) got the better of my so I went to watch it...

Weapons (7.8/10)

Before the movie started, there was a small trailer of it on the screen and that was the first time I had that happen. I didn't watch it as I wanted everything to stay new in the movie itself and I'm glad as the 2nd part of the trailer had quite some spoilers. Anyway, the movie starts off great with a 3rd person voice of a kid narrating the main event of the movie...

WENT DOWNSTRAIRS

From there on out, the movie really starts and the story is told from the point of view of different characters inspired by the movie Magnolia. This way of making a movie is not just a gimmick but it works quite well and adds to the overall experience. The first person we follow is the teacher and very early on it's noticeable that this movie was made by the same guy behind barbarian as the tension is quite high with all shots beautifully filmed.

The first part following the teacher named justine is quite long and it's one of those movies where the 2 Hour and 9 minute Runtime feels more like 3 hours in a good way as it never at any time got boring.

There also are some dream sequenses in this film where you actually know it's a dream so you are prepared for the eventual jump scare that ends the dream. The dream is one of the scray promo images and I would say these dreams are mainly in place to create some scary scenes.

The Story & Hidden Themes
Basically you know with such a great premise that the outcome and explaination will never really be able to live up to the expectations and this for me also was the case in Weapons. I guess there is a hidden main theme behind it all similar how Depression was the theme in a film like The Babadook . This one I would say resolves around Alchoholism and grief but honestly for me I only really get that afterward from watching some YouTube Explained videos.

Overall there are many great things about this movie, the story is told an an interesting way, the tension often is very high, casting and acting were great along with the cinematography and the music. The one thing that kind of underwhelmed me was the explaination of what happened. This makes this a movie where the marketing was just excellent for a movie that is still very good and worth watching even thoug I would not pay 17.80€ again and just wait to see it at home once it releases.

Conclusion
The marketing of this movie did great, and I had very high hopes going into this one that it could be a movie that fits inbetween It Follows, The Babadook, Barbarian, Talk To Me which are all Horror Movies that are my favorites. I would say that Weapons just comes in below those as it was still great and a very tense but enjoyable experience. 7.8/10 and I'm looking forward to the 3rd movie directed by Zach Cregger.
