Today I reviewed the movie Unleashed (2005).

Unleashed also known as Danny the Dog is a 2005 action drama movie starring Jet Li as Danny Morgan Freeman as Sam and Bob Hoskins as Bart. At first it looks like a normal action movie with a lot of fighting but when you actually understand the story you realize that it is much more about a human being who was never given the chance to live like a normal person

The story follows Danny a young man who has been treated like an animal since he was a child. He is raised by a cruel man named Bart who uses him to make money. Bart is a debt collector and whenever someone refuses to pay him Danny is sent to deal with them

Danny wears a metal collar around his neck and Bart controls him through it. Danny has been trained to fight since childhood so when the collar is removed he immediately becomes violent and dangerous. He does not really understand normal life because fighting is almost the only thing he has ever known

This is one of the saddest parts of the movie because Danny is not naturally a violent person. He has simply been raised to believe that fighting is his purpose. Bart never treats him like a human being. He treats him like a weapon that he can use whenever he needs it

Danny also has almost no education or social skills. He does not know how to properly communicate with people and he does not understand many normal things that other people take for granted. He has basically grown up inside a cage even though he is technically living outside one

Bart takes advantage of Danny because he knows that Danny is completely dependent on him. Danny has no family and no real understanding of the world so Bart becomes the only person he knows

Everything changes after Danny gets caught in a violent situation and manages to escape. He eventually meets Sam a blind piano tuner played by Morgan Freeman. Sam lives with his stepdaughter Victoria and unlike Bart he does not see Danny as a weapon. Sam treats Danny with kindness and patience.This is where the movie becomes much more emotional

Danny slowly starts discovering things that he never experienced before. Sam introduces him to music and teaches him about normal human emotions and relationships. Victoria also treats him with kindness instead of fear

For the first time Danny starts feeling safe around other people He begins to understand that life can be more than fighting and following orders

One of the most beautiful things about the movie is watching Danny learn simple things. Things that would normally be completely ordinary for someone else feel completely new to him

He learns how to behave around people and starts becoming more comfortable with Sam and Victoria. He experiences friendship and affection and slowly begins to understand what having a family actually feels like

Music also becomes very important to Danny Sam is a piano tuner and music gives Danny a completely different way to express himself. Instead of using his body to hurt people Danny begins to connect with something peaceful and emotional

Victoria also helps him become more comfortable with himself. For a while Danny finally gets the peaceful life he should have had from the beginning

But unfortunately his past does not simply disappear. Bart eventually finds Danny. Bart still sees Danny as his property and wants to take him back. He does not care about the life Danny has built or about the person Danny is becoming. To Bart Danny is still the same weapon he trained

This creates the main conflict of the movie. Danny is caught between two different lives. One life is the life Bart gave him which is full of violence fear and control

The other life is the life he discovered with Sam and Victoria which is based on kindness freedom and love. Bart tries to bring back the old Danny by forcing him into violent situations. Danny has to face the part of himself that was created by years of abuse and training

The action scenes in the movie are important because they show how dangerous Danny can be but they also show how tragic his situation is

Every time Danny fights it reminds us that he was never allowed to become anything else. He was trained to survive but he was never taught how to live

That is what makes Jet Li's character different from a normal action hero. Danny does not enjoy being violent. Fighting is something that has been forced into him since childhood

The final confrontation with Bart is therefore not just about winning a physical fight It is about Danny finally taking control of his own life For years Bart controlled him with the collar and fear. Danny believed that he had to obey him because that was the only life he knew

But now Danny has something worth protecting He has Sam and Victoria

He has experienced kindness. He has discovered music. And most importantly he has finally discovered his own humanity

Danny eventually refuses to let Bart control him anymore. He chooses his new family and the peaceful life he has started building instead of returning to the life of violence

The ending is emotional because Danny is no longer the same person we saw at the beginning

At the beginning he is basically treated like a weapon a dog a skave. By the end he understands that he is a person who deserves freedom

Victoria's concert also gives the ending a peaceful feeling. Music represents the new life Danny has found. Instead of being surrounded by violence and people who only want to use him he is now surrounded by people who care about him

The movie does not just show Danny becoming stronger. He was already physically strong at the beginning

His real journey is learning how to be human. That is what makes Unleashed more than just an action movie

Jet Li does a great job playing Danny because the character does not need a lot of dialogue to show what he is feeling. Danny is innocent in many ways because he never had the chance to learn how normal people live. His expressions and body language show his confusion fear and gradual happiness

Morgan Freeman is also great as Sam. Sam is one of the most important people in Danny's life because he does not try to control him. Instead he gives Danny the patience and understanding he needs

Bob Hoskins makes Bart extremely cruel and unpleasant which works perfectly for the character. Bart represents everything Danny needs to escape from

The movie also has some very good fight scenes because Jet Li is a martial arts expert. The fights are fast and powerful but they are not only there for entertainment. They also show the difference between Danny's physical ability and his emotional development

Danny can defeat several people in a fight but he struggles with things that most people learn naturally such as trust friendship and love. That contrast makes his character interesting

Another important message of the movie is that people can be damaged by the way they are treated but that does not mean they have to remain the person others created them to be

Danny was raised as a weapon but he was still capable of becoming a kind person when someone finally treated him with kindness

The movie also shows how important human connection can be. Sam does not magically fix Danny

He simply gives Danny a safe place where he can finally learn and grow. Victoria also does not treat him like he is strange or dangerous. She gives him a chance to experience normal life

Because of them Danny slowly learns that he does not have to fight every problem. Overall I think Unleashed is a movie that looks like an action film on the outside but has a much deeper story underneath

It is about abuse freedom trauma family and finding your humanity after years of being controlled by someone else

Danny's journey is honestly one of the most emotional parts of the movie because he is basically learning how to live for the first time

At the beginning he is a human weapon. He follows orders.He fights.He has no real choices

By the end he is finally making his own decisions.He chooses kindness instead of violence

He chooses family instead of his old master.And he chooses freedom instead of the chains that controlled him for so many years.The ending with Victoria's concert feels like a quiet reward after everything Danny has been through. It shows that he has finally found a place where he belongs

Unleashed is definitely worth watching if you enjoy action movies but also want something emotional behind the fighting. The movie has martial arts and intense scenes but its strongest part is actually Danny's emotional journey

It is basically the story of a man who was taught to behave like an animal but slowly learns that he is a human being who deserves love freedom and a normal life. And that is what makes Unleashed memorable
