僕の初恋をキミに捧ぐ A Real Tearjerker

Today, I want to share a movie that really moved me when I was around high school. It was a movie that I watched many times because I liked it so much that I even downloaded the movie and had it on my phone. The name of the movie is 僕の初恋をキミに捧ぐ (Boku no hatsukoi wo kimi ni sasagu). The English translated title is I Give My First Love to You. I have linked the IMDB to the title in case anybody is curious about the movie.

It's a Japanese movie released in 2009 with a 2 hour run time. It's rated 7.1 IMDB which is pretty decent in my opinion. I would categorize this as a romance, slice of life type of movie. If you are someone that prefers action, then this is probably not the movie for you.

Short Summary Of The Plot

The main character in the movie, Takuma, finds out that he doesn't have a long time to live. The doctor told him he would die around twenty years old. Knowing this, he lives his life to the fullest while staying away from the girl he liked since childhood because he's afraid to hurt her. The girl doesn't know that he will die and keeps chasing him. What will be in store for these two? You have to watch to find out!

If you like this kind of story and genre, I hope you will give this movie a chance. Hopefully, I made the summary interesting enough while not spoiling the movie.

My Thoughts On This Movie

I still think even today this movie is great to watch. If you want something wholesome, sweet, with some laughs and even maybe cry watching a movie, then this will be a great movie to watch. Honestly, I cried the first time I watched this movie and still teared up after watching every time after.

I think the acting was great especially from Masaki Osada who played Takuma. He's known for this movie and even won 4 best new talent awards from this movie. Mao Inoue who played Mayu also did great. I feel like these two main leads had good chemistry which made the movie enjoyable to watch. The scenes felt natural and didn't feel forced which made the movie feel like it's something that could be happening in real life.

I also loved the theme song for this movie. It fit well with the story. Maybe you don't understand the lyrics but you can feel it from the music. I have shared below the song which I got from Youtube so this song isn't mine; it's just for sharing purposes.

I also liked how the ending is different from most movies; it's something that I feel Japanese movies tend to do more than the American movies. As for the type of ending, I can't say as it might spoil the movie.

For me, I'd give this movie a 9 out of 10. I don't think there's many movies that can hit that 10/10 mark but this was a movie that was good for it's time. In short, great story about true love, great acting and just something chill to watch and cry to. Of course, this is totally my opinion and there are some people that probably thought this movie sucked.

If you have watched this movie before though, do let me know your thoughts in the comments below!

Naturally I don't watch romantic movies but sometimes the storyline make me attract to watch it. Sounds like it's one of them. I am taking a screenshot of the movie and I hope someday I will watch the movie whenever I will get time 🙂.

Watch it with your gf

I don't have any GF😅. May be that is the reason I am not so interested in romantic movies 🤣. But still I have seen some romantic movies and I was impressed also because of storyline.

Haven't watched Japanese live action films for a years unless they were an adaptation of an anime but the premise reminds me of I want to eat your Pancreas or Your Lie in April
