At the beginning of the movie, our main character Guthlee sees and understands little Guthlee's passion for learning through the incident of seeing his name spelled from a moving freight car and writing his name on the ground. Also, the joy of little Guthlee being able to write his name is seen in the incident of telling his little friend Ladoo that they both follow the school principal to school. There, Ladoo steals Misty from the principal's room and Guthlee is seen through the window listening to the school madam's teaching and learning about the extraordinary phenomenon.

After that, it is seen that Guthlee wants to enroll in school to study with his parents. Then it is known that sweeper class people are not given any opportunity to enroll in school and study in the society. As a result, the principal of the school visits Guthlee's house and confronts his mother about Guthlee's sneaking into school. We can see and know how much the sweeper class people are neglected in our society. One can see a social system where sweeper class people are seen as inferior. As a result sweeper class people are deprived of the opportunity to ever change their lives.

But at some point Guthlee's father realizes that even if he is a sweeper, he will educate his son and make him a respectable man.
