  • Hello, this is my first post and as such I would like to focus on a topic that I love, and this combines two of the things I like and love the most, music and Japanese animation specifically.

  • Cinema has accompanied me throughout my life, I watched movies without understanding the depth of their stories, and also without understanding the depth of what it takes to create a movie, its different paradigms, details and the enormous work behind it. Anime, meanwhile, appeared in my life almost 15 years ago, I was a quiet teenager with certain problems to interact, so finding a safe space where I could visualize so many different stories was an incredible experience. Throughout my life these two facets, both cinema and anime, advanced and grew in me until now, they are an essential part of my day to day life, from an entertainment aspect as well as from teaching and values.

Anime and Cinema

  • Even though anime is just a term to refer to Japanese animation and film is an art form in which anime can also fit, I separate them from a creative point of view and their internal storytelling formula. Anime escapes from all the somewhat established parameters of any kind of audiovisual and delivers new concrete forms of it and, because of this, at least there was a time when anime stagnated in terms of its narrative quality (with a few exceptions such as Katsuhiro Otomo's Akira, Studio Ghibli with its great works and much of Satoshi Kon's repertoire). This stagnation of quality perhaps prevented anime, still immobilized by its own internal theory, to reach a more massive audience and avoid being seen as "cartoons for children", but at least I personally feel that there was a film that more than corroborated that anime was not a diffuse mirage of the same cinema and more conventional animation, but that it had its own soul and that soul was attractive to the world. With you Kimi no Nawa.

Synopsis

  • It is a Japanese animated film released in 2016; written and directed by Makoto Shinkai, is the story of two young people who intertwine their bodies, experiences and dreams through a desire, and that desire is reflected in that both protagonists Mitsuha and Taki change their consciousness one with the other, also the change is corporal (I will omit certain points to not deliver spoiler), perhaps this theme of body changes is already very trite, but here it is used in a masterful and subtle way, the main theme is not the change of body and how both must live with that, but how their dreams and experiences are developing each one, this accompanied by one of the most beautiful drawings I've seen animated, with starry and mountainous landscapes with watercolor tints, the construction of the characters and a soundtrack not only beautiful, if not with a deep sense in the film.

Soundtrack and specifically Yumetourou

  • The soundtrack of the film is one of the complex and appealing ones that I have allowed myself to listen to and also enjoy, the specific band is RADWIMPS. The most striking thing about this song is the coherence it has with the film, extracting words from Jaime Altozano, he says: "Using the same theme is able to create four pieces of J-Pop (musical genre), linked to aspects of the plot, through choices of timbres and production. Made in such a way that finalizing the four pieces in a single set, nuancing the plot". And the magic and complexity of this piece of music, which may sound simplistic, is the first movement that we hear a Backmasking (sounds recorded in reverse), of an electric guitar, is the first song that sounds in the film and leaves us a message which is that the events are distorted, if you have already seen or intend to see the film, you will understand that this is not something gratuitous this fact.
The song influences me so much as an observer, and a full admiration for both the director and the band, to integrate so well both in their facets, the song by itself is beautiful, cheerful, it is almost like it invites you to an adventure, but when you begin to understand that it is just a piece of a great musical puzzle, it is no longer a great song of a good soundtrack, it becomes perhaps the best anime soundtrack in history.
If you made it this far, I thank you for reading and revisiting this beautiful song and giving it a little deeper meaning, as well as giving exposure to this great movie.

Radwimps - Yumetourou

If you made it this far, I thank you for reading and watching this beautiful song and giving it a little deeper meaning and exposure to this great film.

This movie is absolutely beautiful, among my favorite anime and movies in general of all time. The songs are gorgeous too. You should check out the intro song of the anime series Parasyte, it is also a masterpiece.

I only know the opening of Parasyte, it's tremendous, I'll take a look at it and as for the movie, it's beautiful in every detail, plus Makoto Shinkai's concept of love is very subtle.
