Humane is the latest movie from IFC Films, I think we have a banger in our hands here, the story timeline seem to unfold during and entire day from the moment they are visit to collect two bodies, months after a global ecological collapse that force nation leaders take action to reduce 20% of the worlds population reducing drastically the amount of humans on this world, they seem to take a page out of Thanos book. The story of a family whose father Charles York a recently retired journalist has invited all his adult children now for dinner with the intention to announce his intentions to enlist in the country’s new euthanasia program, but things did not go according to plan and tension explodes within the members of the family, governmental agency came in to collect two bodies and now they, the children have to decide who goes, turning the house into a royal rumble for survival.

Director Caitlin Cronenberg: A Rising Star in Cinema

Director for Humanize Caitlin Cronerberg dauther of the well known filmmaker David Cronenberg, Humanize is Caitlin directional debut and I personally from what I saw on the trailer find a very well done job. Debut director I would not find much about her work although some sites mention her work on photography and some other short films, as a new director she might bring a new perspective something fresh to Humane (2024), you would notice within the house scenes how there is a lot of shadow and light coming through windows, that's usually directors work, two of the movies that I did find were The Endings (2018) and The Death of David Cronenberg (2021) two of the movies she work on the TV side she work as a photographer on some series such as Flashpoint, Rookie Blue, and Anne with an E, moving on from behind the lenses to the director chair.

Humane Plot After A Disturbing Dinner Conversation

This kind of apocalyptic event, well not so much in this case but still drastic climate changes or scarce of certain resource around the world has become a theme, Humane touch some of this elements like overpopulation, euthanasia, planet heat, pollution within others. It is a movie with a lot of dark humor as some of the family members just need to stay out and wait until the rest kill each other to figure out who stays and who becomes part of the 20% that has to go permanently sleep all of this after what was a peaceful dinner with their father. I try to put myself on this scenario where there are news all over the place about overpopulation and try to think how country leaders around the world come to the agreement to erase 20% of human race and on top make it voluntary, I can understand the reason why has to be voluntary if not then it would be called murder, going hunting people until you have enough bodies but not only that it has to be voluntary there is the problem of how this would affect the work force, I guess there must be a checklist to figure out if you are actually fitted to be part of the 20% of the population that has to die so the planet can keep going and human race can survive, from the trailer we can see there is water shortage, I guess living space is a problem too and I mention pollution as a topic because you see a men wearing an umbrella during day light so probably UV light is just too intense that might cause damage? I got so many questions about this movie that intrigue me and the scene where they have to kill each other looks hilarious.

A Smooth Journey to the Big Screen

Humane (2024) started filming on October 2022 and even after all the troubles that Hollywood went through locally and globally with the 2023 strike the creation and production of Humane (2024) didn't show any signs of been impact, Ravenscliffe Castle served as a key location for 17 of those days, adding a touch of mystic to the aesthetics of the movie in a total of 20 days of filming there were no reports of delays or controversies, a solid process from cast till the ending of making what I think would be within the highlights of 2024 movie.

I have a feeling this movie will trigger a few people but those who understand this is just entertaining and not educative content will look at it from a different perspective, things like euthanasia and dark humor are usually not well taken by everyone. In my opinion from what I have seen from the trailer this movies looks as a combination of many emotions through the different scenes of action, aggression, ethical conflicts and even a lot of humor if you are into funny events when people are trying to kill each other.
