Shadow and Bone - A Searing Burst of Light - Personal Thoughts

This is a Tv Series I got interested in after saw their season 2 came out a few days ago on the 16th to be exactly, my wife have been trying to spoil it for me, my office is at the far back part of the apartment, I have to go through the living room and then the kitchen, she was watching season 2 over the weekend on both living room tv and kitchen tv depending where she is and I had to close my eyes and stuff my ears to avoid spoilers jajajaja then she get mad when I start watching a tv show without her.

The story of Alina Starkov an orphan who thought was just a common map maker in the world cover by dark, The Fold, most people who dare to cross it die until she unleash a hidden power that she never thought was inside her.

Shadow and Bone has a good 7.5/10 on IMDB, at first it starts slow but don't let it full you because on the first episodes part of Alina full power is reveal after her best friend, I would say more than that but nothing official yet, gets capture by a creature that looks like a gargoyle, she tries to safe him but gets capture too until she let her powers go, she is what they call a sun summoner. The series is based in the age of Grishna, humans who have power to control the elements, in the case of Alina she can become the most powerful of all by summoning the power of the sun, the power of light.

Shadow and Bone environment I would describe it as sad and dark, there is The Fold, an entire wall of dark clouds that inside lives flying creatures who kill anything that gets in their way, only those who can control elements like fire, wind, light can fight them back, scenes of the series have very dark colors and I guess it has to be that way to express feelings like depression, loneliness and lack of hope that most of the them had fighting a war on different fronts but the most frustrating against the fold, its been said that it was created by a Grishna after the lost of a love one.

The country is at war against the fold, the army is constantly sending troops to figure out a way to beat the creatures inside and cross the fold but without much success, Alina is send close to the Fold, she is part of the army as a map maker and is soon to see her friend from childhood Mal, right from the start I can tell there is some attraction between them, was not so obvious from Mal but it was from Alina, all kids are tested to find out if they have powers as every Grishna is needed in the fight against the fold, she cheated to stay with Mal, at first she was always defending him but he is now a grown men who can fight his own battles.

They haven't seen each other in a while and its now Mal who looks after Aline, they are grown now and the world is different, everyone picks at Alina as she is a small women, she is not a soldier with a low rank. Unlucky for Mal there are supplies that have to be transported across the fold, they already know this is basically a suicide mission as most of this cargo never arrive, everything is lost and kill within the fold, names are pick randomly, Mal is assign to this mission and Alina wont let him go alone.

Besides Alina story there are some side stories related to each other at some point in time, another interesting character is Kaz Brekker, who takes a job for a Million Kruge, I guess during those times its way more than what a million dollars can buy you know, he leads a gang of bandits who will help him get a scientist out of the Little Palace, this scientist has develop a formula to amplify Grishna powers, for normal humans Grishna people are not well seen as some of them are a bit ruthless with them. Kaz methods are most of the time very extremist and he is also constantly in ALL IN situations, this guy will have you ad the edge of the couch.

Kaz has to move fast as there are others behind the job, he assemble a crew who same as him doesn't have much to loose and a lot to win.

The Fold is over a land of full of dust as everything inside is dead, no vegetation no thing, its just a desert where the sun doesn't shine and nature dies. Humans use ships, grishna who can control wind blow the bails to move forward while grishna who control fire guard the ship with other humans.

Humans dress in brown as grishna dress in colors red, blue, green, dark, I suppose that's based on rank and their power. Everyone on the ship is scared since its almost guarantee that they will die on this trip.

To cross the fold the only source of light they can use is a lantern with blue flame as creatures from from the shadows, their main lantern blows out, they are all scared to death and one of the soldiers light up a regular yellow flame lantern, immediately a creature appears from behind to took him while it fly away. The ship burns, everyone starts screaming and shooting at the creatures who start to appear picking them up one by one, Mal is picked up by one of the creatures to then be thrown back to the ship after the creature is shot, Alina is next to him hoping he doesn't die.

Another creature comes and pick her up, Mal and Alina stay holding hands until it happens, Alina lights up like the sun killing every creature surrounding them.

The ship manage to make it back with survivors, something that have never happen before, one of the survivors start running away when the first creature attack, he manage to escape and was out of the ship, all of the sudden he gets hit by this wave probably of wind from Alina power blowing up and he describes how he saw Alina been held by the creature in the air, after she lights up like the sun every creature disappear

I like this story although its a bit similar to others, I have already seen a few more episodes and it picks up speed very fast, actors are good, special effects too, creatures so far are not something that will have been shown as I expected direct fight with monsters, the story is more about humans story as they become grishna and their involvement with the creation of the fold, this is a series I will keep watching.
