En un intento por despedirse de su compañera de secundaria, un grupo de estudiantes invocan una maldición que los llevará a una dimensión de muerte y tragedia. En lo más profundo de la oscuridad, en una escuela habitada por almas en pena, los desafortunados jóvenes deberán escapar de un festín sangriento invocando la amistad de la que alguna vez hicieron alarde. Sin embargo, en la fiesta de los cadáveres, irse antes del pastel no es la mejor opción…

El gore en el anime Shonen es muy común, obviamente, en algunas producciones este elemento está menos presente que en otras. La sangre es un elemento que brinda cierta crudeza en las historias con un toque rebelde, en las cuales las batallas cuerpo a cuerpo son muy comunes. Pero, cuando la animación es dantesca y oscura, el resultado puede ser muy impactante mientras se muestre de forma inteligente. Un ejemplo de esto es Corpse Party, ¿la razón? Tiene características únicas que engalanan el género bajo una premisa visualmente espeluznante.

Corpse Party es un Anime basado en un videojuego y el cual vi por primera vez a mis dieciséis años. Es curioso que, como amantes de los videojuegos, haya conocido la serie animada mucho antes que el propio juego. Palabras menos, fue una historia que disfruté de principio a fin por el estilo visual de sus escenas, tan crudas y viscerales que literalmente hicieron volar mis sentidos. No es una clásica animación de brillos y recursos humorísticos, y aunque los hay, el punto clave detrás de tantas muertes es la hipotética forma en la que reluce el género paranormal.

¿Inocencia? ¿Venganza? ¿Asesinatos? ¿Dimensiones desconocidas? Por supuesto que hay mucho de eso, y también de una escuela y algunas leyendas de terror como las que se relatan alrededor de una fogata, mientras el temor invade el cuerpo y las ganas de gritar tropiezan con los oídos. Y, como detonante, un grupo de estudiantes que van padeciendo las circunstancias más descabelladas y terroríficas que ni siquiera las mentes oscuras son capaces de imaginar.

Gore in Shonen anime is very common, obviously, in some productions this element is less present than in others. Blood is an element that provides a certain rawness in stories with a rebellious touch, in which hand-to-hand battles are very common. But, when the animation is daunting and dark, the result can be very impressive as long as it is displayed intelligently. An example of this is Corpse Party, the reason? It has unique features that grace the genre under a visually creepy premise.

Corpse Party is an Anime based on a video game and which I saw for the first time when I was sixteen years old. It is curious that, as video game lovers, I have known the animated series long before the game itself. Words less, it was a story that I enjoyed from beginning to end because of the visual style of its scenes, so raw and visceral that they literally made my senses fly. It is not a classic animation of brilliance and humorous resources, and although there are, the key point behind so many deaths is the hypothetical way in which the paranormal genre shines.

Innocence? Revenge? murders? Unknown dimensions? Of course there is a lot of that, and also of a school and some horror legends like those told around a campfire, while fear invades the body and the desire to scream hits the ears. And, as a trigger, a group of students who are suffering the most crazy and terrifying circumstances that not even dark minds are capable of imagining.

Ahora bien, debo decir que este anime resulta ser sensible por muchos aspectos: uno de estos es la crueldad en la que van cayendo los protagonistas hasta la sombra de la muerte, ya sea arrastrados hasta volverse trisas o engañados hasta la locura. Se trata de una maldición que lo consume todo hasta destriparlo, una magia que radica en el corazón de niños caídos… sí, así como lo ven, ¡fantasmas de niños con una insaciable sed de venganza!

La fragilidad de los protagonistas se exagera para revolver las tripas de los espectadores e incluso causar un poco de nauseas. Corpse Party es un anime que honra el arte gore y lo mezcla tanto con el aspecto fantasmal como el psicológico. La leyenda que da vida a la magia que envuelve la historia parte de la violencia, el abuso y la locura. Y para agregar una chispa interesante, también se toca la paradoja del tiempo, el existencialismo y las dimensiones. Esto fue lo que me atrajo de esta serie de animación japonés: sus múltiples estilos.

¿Imaginas quedarte atrapado en una dimensión de fantasmas asesinos? Suena ilógico, y sin embargo, este mundo es tan misterioso que es casi imposible descifrar los enigmas que nadie se atreve a revelar. Es casi común relatar historias de terror para asustar a nuestros amigos, sin saber si esas pesadillas nos asechan mientras inocentemente contamos sus leyendas. En algún punto no sabemos que es real y que no lo es… incluso, somos capaces de dudar de la propia realidad.

Now, I must say that this anime turns out to be sensitive in many aspects: one of these is the cruelty in which the protagonists fall into the shadow of death, either dragged until they become sad or fooled into madness. It is a curse that consumes everything until it disembowels, a magic that lies in the hearts of fallen children... yes, as you see it, child ghosts with an insatiable thirst for revenge!

The fragility of the protagonists is exaggerated to turn the viewers' guts up and even cause a little nausea. Corpse Party is an anime that honors gore art and mixes it with both ghostly and psychological aspects. The legend that gives life to the magic that surrounds the story is based on violence, abuse and madness. And to add an interesting spark, the paradox of time, existentialism and dimensions are also touched upon. This was what attracted me to this Japanese animation series: its multiple styles.

Can you imagine being trapped in a dimension of murderous ghosts? It sounds illogical, and yet this world is so mysterious that it is almost impossible to decipher the enigmas that no one dares to reveal. It is almost common to tell horror stories to scare our friends, without knowing if those nightmares haunt us while we innocently tell their legends. At some point we do not know what is real and what is not... we are even capable of doubting reality itself.

Corpse Party es un anime de horror con tan solo cuatro episodios, lo que la hace accesible en términos de tiempo. Nunca tuve la oportunidad de jugar el videojuego, sin embargo, siento que hay muchos elementos distintivos con respecto a otros títulos tanto en el aspecto del cine como en la literatura. Esta historia me recuerda mucho a los clásicos de Stephen King, entre ellos franquicias como El Resplandor o incluso IT. ¿Cuándo caemos en la locura? Quizás en el instante que abandonamos la luz y caemos en el remordimiento, la pena o la tortura del pensamiento. No obstante, algunas almas nacen desde el principio en lo profundo de las tinieblas.

Hubo una escena en particular que me hizo recordar lo retorcido que puede ser el mundo, obviamente no la diré para evitar arruinarles el anime en caso de que no lo hayan visto. Sin embargo, la forma en la que se muestra la muerte de ese personaje es tan abrupta, que es imposible no pensar en que realmente han ocurrido situaciones como esa. Eso me lleva a preguntar, ¿a que realmente hay que temerle? ¿Fantasmas o seres humanos? La respuesta los sorprendería.

Si bien el anime no es una obra de arte, al menos en su confección logra cumplir con la tarea de aterrarnos, conmovernos e incluso asombrarnos. Lo más curioso de todo es la manera en la que empieza la maldición que atrapa a los estudiantes: un juego, parecido a esos juegos para llamar fantasmas pero que si se hacen mal terminan trayendo consecuencias irremediables. ¿Logran escapar al final? Eso es algo que debes descubrir por ti mismo…

Corpse Party is a horror anime with only four episodes, which makes it accessible in terms of time. I never had the opportunity to play the video game, however, I feel that there are many distinctive elements with respect to other titles both in the aspect of cinema and in literature. This story reminds me a lot of Stephen King classics, including franchises like The Shining or even IT. When do we fall into madness? Perhaps in the instant that we abandon the light and fall into remorse, sorrow or the torture of thought. However, some souls are born from the beginning in the depths of darkness.

There was one scene in particular that made me remember how twisted the world can be, obviously I won't say it to avoid spoiling the anime for you guys in case you haven't seen it. However, the way in which the death of that character is shown is so abrupt that it is impossible not to think that situations like that have really happened. That leads me to ask, what is there really to fear? Ghosts or humans? The answer would surprise them.

Although anime is not a work of art, at least in its preparation it manages to fulfill the task of terrifying, moving and even astonishing us. The most curious of all is the way in which the curse that traps the students begins: a game, similar to those games to call ghosts, but if they are done wrong they end up bringing irremediable consequences. Do they manage to escape in the end? That's something you have to discover for yourself...

Si deseas ver materializados los recuerdos de las historias de terror que alguna vez no te hicieron dormir entonces para este Halloween no debes perderte Corpse Party. Un reventón al mejor estilo del anime japonés, con tripas en vez de papelillos y gritos en vez de regalos de cumpleaños. Recomiendo esta serie animada si eres amante de lo dantesco, frío y visceral, de lo contrario, tal vez las escenas te parezcan perturbadoras.

También recomiendo que por favor, nunca jueguen con cosas que invoquen fantasmas porque o sea, nada puede salir bien, ¡eso es lo que nos han enseñado las series y películas! LOL.

If you want to see the memories of the horror stories that once did not make you sleep materialize, then for this Halloween you should not miss Corpse Party. A blowout in the best Japanese anime style, with guts instead of paper and screams instead of birthday presents. I recommend this animated series if you are a lover of the Dantesque, cold and visceral, otherwise you may find the scenes disturbing.

I also recommend that you please never play with things that summon ghosts because I mean, nothing can go right, that's what the series and movies have taught us! LOL.
