Terminaron en un infierno solo por ser educados [ESP-ENG]

En ocasiones, las conductas ajenas nos parecen tan grotescas y desaliñadas que, en lugar de sentenciarlas o criticarlas, preferimos guardar silencio. Hagamos un ejemplo: supón que tienes un amigo alocado, altisonante, narcisista, mal educado y conflictivo, que siempre te hace pasar vergüenza frente a otros y, para colmo, te trata muy mal. ¿Lo pondrías en su lugar? o... ¿Seguirías la amistad con él como si no ha pasado nada?

Aunque en la gran parte de los casos la respuesta correcta sería mandarlo al demonio, hay personas que por ser "educadas" o "muy pasivas" terminan doblegadas. Gran parte de esto me lo ratificó Speak no Evil, un Thriller suave que apela a la oscura conducta humana... nacida, desde luego, desde las acciones más dantescas.

Sometimes we find other people's behavior so grotesque and disgraceful that, instead of condemning or criticizing it, we prefer to remain silent. Much of this was confirmed to me by Speak no Evil, a soft Thriller that appeals to dark human behavior... born, of course, from the most Dantesque actions.

Tenía mucho tiempo sin ver un Thriller con tanta ligereza e impacto en su trama. De hecho, si te sientas en el sofá a comer palomitas mientras ves el film, tal vez cuestiones la naturaleza de Speapk no Evil. Al principio no verás más que una familia de vacaciones, disfrutando del verano en algún lugar de Italia, sin peligro alguno y mejor aún: con la probabilidad de que encuentren nuevos amigos.

Y al final es lo que termina pasando.

Bjorn, su esposa Louise y su hija Agnes son esta familia reservada y de buenos valores; ya saben: los típicos modelos de una sociedad benevolente. Los tres disfrutan de sus vacaciones como cualquier familia mayor al promedio. Toscana ha sido el mejor lugar del mundo para unas vacaciones inigualables. It's been a long time since I've seen a Thriller with such lightness and impact in its plot. In fact, if you sit on the couch eating popcorn while watching the film, you might question the nature of Speapk no Evil. At first you'll see nothing more than a family on vacation, enjoying the summer somewhere in Italy, with no danger whatsoever and better yet: with the likelihood that they'll find new friends.

And in the end that's what ends up happening.

Bjorn, his wife Louise and their daughter Agnes are this reserved family with good values; you know: the typical role models of a benevolent society. The three of them enjoy their vacation like any other above-average family. Tuscany has been the best place in the world for an unparalleled vacation. There, in the paradisiacal place, they run into another family of three (Karin, Patrick and Abel), and to their bad luck, something worse.

Karin y Patrick son este matrimonio que aparente ser perfecto. Junto a su hijo Abel, parecieran tener mucho en común con la familia de Bjorn. Acá nace una de esas amistades compatibles a priori, enaltecidas por gustos en común y costumbres decentes. Todo bien hasta que llega eso de: "algo anda mal". Esta es la incertidumbre que plantea la película, con toques bastante siniestros sobre la manipulación y, finalmente: sobre la traición correspondida.

Traición correspondida es igual a: dejar que te traicionen aunque sabes que lo están haciendo.

Todo lo que pasa en torno a esta tóxica relación de amistad, deriva de la invitación que hace la familia de Patrick a la familia de Bjorn, y que consiste en pasar algunos días a la cabaña que tienen en Holanda. A partir de ese momento comienzan las sospechas: es un largometraje que juega con tu percepción, a tal grado de odiar a los protagonistas por sus errores imperdonables.

Karin and Patrick are this seemingly perfect married couple. Together with their son Abel, they seem to have a lot in common with Bjorn's family. Here is born one of those a priori compatible friendships, enhanced by common tastes and decent habits. All well and good until it comes to that: "something is wrong". This is the uncertainty posed by the film, with rather sinister touches on manipulation and, finally: on betrayal reciprocated.

Betrayal is equal to: letting them betray you even though you know they are betraying you.

Everything that happens around this toxic friendship derives from the invitation made by Patrick's family to Bjorn's family, which consists of spending a few days in the cabin they have in Holland. From that moment on, suspicions begin to creep in: it is a feature film that plays with your perception, to the point of making you hate the main characters for their unforgivable mistakes.

El largometraje es lento, pero esto tiene una razón: buscan ponerte incómodo, buscan que tengas ansiedad y por sobre todo: quieren que veas lo que los protagonistas son incapaces de ver. Depende de cuán paciente y observador seas. Eso sí, el final te hará saber el por qué de una trama con forma de tortuga. Además, puede que entiendas la razón detrás de esa mala costumbre de quedarse callado ante los abusos y las faltas de respeto. Debo decirte, que en Speak no Evil afianzarás esa lección.

Gran parte del horror trascurre en los fragmentos finales de la película. Al menos a mí, me dejó un sabor muy amargo en la boca. Si eres una persona muy sensible, terminarás pesando en ese desenlace durante muchos días.

The film is slow, but there is a reason for this: they want to make you uncomfortable, they want to make you anxious and above all: they want you to see what the protagonists are unable to see. It depends on how patient and observant you are. Mind you, the ending will let you know the why of a turtle-shaped plot. Also, you might understand the reason behind that bad habit of staying silent in the face of abuse and disrespect. I have to tell you, in Speak no Evil you'll solidify that lesson.

Much of the horror transpires in the final fragments of the film. At least for me, it left a very bitter taste in my mouth. If you're a very sensitive person, you'll end up dwelling on that denouement for days to come.

Speak no Evil es una película Danesa que busca cambiar un poco el paradigma de los Thrillers, concentrando todo el horror en situaciones de tensión y ansiedad. No conozco al elenco, es la primera vez que veo a estos actores en la gran pantalla. A pesar de que el largometraje flaquea por su lentitud, sobre todo en los públicos ansiosos, gran parte del film triunfa por la confección de su ingeniosa trama. Al menos a mi me gustó mucho y, sin duda, es una obra cinematográfica que recomiendo.

Esta es una propuesta interesante si buscas algo nuevo y distinto al clásico horror americano. Sin duda alguna, es una película excelente para disfrutar y analizar con cautela, sobre todo, por su peculiar mensaje: ser educado y ser prudente no siempre es bueno, pues de alguna forma u otra, eso te puede convertir en un masoquista.

Speak no Evil is a Danish film that seeks to change a bit the paradigm of Thrillers, concentrating all the horror in situations of tension and anxiety. I don't know the cast, it's the first time I've seen these actors on the big screen. Although the feature film falters in its slowness, especially for anxious audiences, much of the film succeeds because of its ingenious plotting. At least I liked it a lot and it is certainly a work of filmmaking that I recommend.

This is an interesting proposal if you are looking for something new and different from the classic American horror. Undoubtedly, it is an excellent film to enjoy and analyze with caution, especially for its peculiar message: being polite and being prudent is not always good, because in one way or another, it can turn you into a masochist.
