A Real Pain | Movie Review

Saludos, cinéfilos de esta comunidad. Me encanta volver a retomar el hábito de ver películas y series y hacer sus respectivas reseñas. Siento que al realizarlo, vuelvo a conectar con una persona que había tomado un avión a otro lugar, pero que ya volvió. El día de hoy vengo con la reseña de una película que tenía muchas ganas de ver desde hace algunos meses. Estuvo bastante mencionada en la época de premiación por la actuación de Kieran Culkin, y obviamente debía ver a que se debía todo este revuelo mediático.

Greetings, cinephiles of this community. I love getting back into the habit of watching movies and series and reviewing them. I feel that by doing so, I reconnect with a person who had taken a plane to another place, but is now back. Today I come with a review of a movie I've been looking forward to seeing for a few months. It was quite mentioned at awards time because of Kieran Culkin's performance, and obviously I had to see what all the media hype was about.

Benji y, David son primos y descendientes de judíos. Sus papás son hermanos, y estos dos crecieron como si fueran hermanos también. Ambos se embarcan en un viaje a Polonia para conectar con sus raíces. Este viaje fue programado por su abuela Doris, una sobreviviente del holocausto, que les dejó la tarea de conocer su tierra natal luego de que murieran. Un dolor real puede verse en cualquier acción en la película, y aunque suene diferente, aunque el tema de ser judíos, el holocausto y los sobrevives, no es el principal tema de la película. El dolor real es el que atraviesan algunos de los personajes.

En ambos primos vemos dos caras de la moneda: el dicharachero, gracioso, conversador, la luz que ilumina una habitación. Y del otro lado tenemos al introvertido, poco conversador, que prefiere quedarse fuera de la foto que dentro de ella. Creo que podemos reflejarlos en uno o en el otro y en los dolores reales que atraviesa cada uno de ellos.

Benji and David are cousins and descendants of Jews. Their parents are brothers, and these two grew up as if they were brothers as well. They both embark on a trip to Poland to connect with their roots. This trip was scheduled by their grandmother Doris, a Holocaust survivor, who left them the task of getting to know their homeland after they died. Real pain can be seen in any action in the film, and although it sounds different, although the theme of being Jewish, the holocaust and the survivors, is not the main theme of the film. The real pain is what some characters go through.

In both cousins we see two sides of the coin: the talkative, funny, conversationalist, the light that illuminates a room. And on the other side we have the introvert, not very talkative, who prefers to stay out of the picture rather than in it. I think we can reflect them in one or the other and in the real pains that each of them goes through.

Entendí perfectamente la razón por la cual Kieran Culkin se ganó todos los premios a los que fue nominado, hizo una actuación remarcable e inolvidable. Y aunque sé la respuesta, sigo sin comprender por qué lo inscribieron como actor secundario en la temporada de premio cuando es claramente un protagonista. Comprendo que fue una jugada para que ambos actores se llevaran una estatuilla a casa, pero sabemos que eso no terminó bien. Si considero que si le hubieran dejado el renglón como protagonista, también habría arrasado, tal como lo ha hecho anteriormente con su gran actuación en la serie Succesion.

Por otro lado, no me convence Jesse Eisenberg. No es un buen actor. Que mejor se quede escribiendo y produciendo porque lo hace buenísimo. Tal vez me convenció en La Red Social porque era más sencillo para él y su carácter, actuar cono Zuckerberg, pero en esta película en particular, me pareció muy malo y bastante sobreactuado. Su actuación hizo que la película no resaltara más, dejando todo el peso del éxito de la misma a la actuación de Kieran.

I totally understood the reason Kieran Culkin won every award he was nominated for, he gave a remarkable and unforgettable performance. And even though I know the answer, I still don't understand why they listed him as a supporting actor in the award season when he is clearly a leading man. I understand that it was a play for both actors to take home a statuette, but we know that didn't end well. I do feel that if they had left him in the line as the lead, he would have swept the board as well, just as he has done previously with his great performance in the series Succession.

On the other hand, I'm not sold on Jesse Eisenberg. He is not a good actor. He'd better stay writing and producing because he's great at it. Maybe he convinced me in The Social Network because it was easier for him and his character, acting as Zuckerberg, but in this particular movie, I found him very bad and quite overacted. His performance made the film not stand out more, leaving all the weight of the film's success to Kieran's performance.

Esta película es una comedia relajada, no es para destornillarse de risas, pero si pueda sacarte unas sonrisas ligeras, que te hacen sentir bien. Es de este tipo de películas en las que una imagen dice más que mil palabras, y en las que no hace falta profundizar mucho para poder descubrir cuál es el verdadero Dolor Real. Me gustó, es de este tipo de películas domingueras que puedes disfrutar sin sentir que te vas a partir en llanto.

This film is a relaxed comedy, it is not to make you burst out laughing, but it can make you smile a little bit, which makes you feel good. It's the kind of movie where a picture says more than a thousand words, and where you don't have to go too deep to find out what the real Pain is. I liked it, it is this kind of Sunday movies that you can enjoy without feeling like you're going to break down in tears.
