¡Saludos a todos! ¿Quieren ver una película que los haga llorar mucho? Entonces deben ver esta producción Tailandesa de Netflix que además de ser hermosa, tiene un mensaje poderoso. Quiero reseñar el día de hoy a Lahn Mah: Cómo hacerse millonario antes de que muera la abuela.

Greetings everyone! Do you want to see a movie that makes you cry a lot? Then you must watch this Thai Netflix production that, besides being beautiful, has a powerful message. I want to review today, Lahn Mah. How to Make Millions Before Grandma Dies.

M. es un joven ambicioso, sin trabajo, que vive con su madre y quiere hacer dinero de cualquier manera (fácil). Un día se entera de que su abuela está enferma de cáncer en estado cuatro. Así como por cosas de la vida, conoce una manera sencilla de hacer dinero: siendo cuidador. Por lo que decide mudarse con su abuela para cuidarla, teniendo en cuenta que debe ganarse su cariño para que le deje la casa de herencia.

Creo que no arruinaría tu experiencia si sabemos de lo que trata la película y de como acabará. Sin embargo, el viaje que tomamos a lo largo de las dos horas que dura es lo que hace de esto una película muy bien hecha.

La simpleza del guion, la sutileza de la actuación de la abuela siendo una abuela, una matrona que se para cada día de madrugada para salir a trabajar. La que tiene su rincón para orar. La que lo primero que hace cuando llegas es preguntar si comiste. Esa abuela nuestra que todos vemos representada en esta actuación. Y paralelo a esto vemos como M intenta sacar partido de su propia abuela y es algo que a mí me causó mucha incomodidad.

M. is an ambitious, unemployed young man who lives with his mother and wants to make money any (easy) way he can. One day, he learns that his grandmother is sick with stage four cancer. As life happens, he finds out a simple way to make money: being a caregiver. So he decides to move in with his grandmother to take care of her, keeping in mind that he must win her affection so that she will leave him the inheritance house.

I think it wouldn't spoil your experience if we know what the movie is about and how it will end. However, the journey we take throughout the two-hour running time is what makes this a very well-made film.

The simplicity of the script, the subtlety of the performance of the grandmother being a grandmother, a matron who stops every day in the wee hours of the morning to go out to work. The one who has her corner to pray. The one that the first thing she does when you arrive is ask if you ate. That grandmother of ours that we all see represented in this performance. And parallel to this we see how M tries to take advantage of her own grandmother, and it is something that caused me a lot of discomfort.

Creo que todos en la vida pasaremos por algo similar, y algunos ya hemos pasado por esto. Ver los problemas que pasan las familias cuando un familiar cae enfermo, y esta película lo retrata perfectamente. Incluso pasando al otro lado del mundo es exactamente lo mismo: el familiar que solo pone dinero y cree que así estará más cerca de su madre, la que deja la piel y deja su vida de lado para cuidar a sus padres, y tenemos al que no le interesa en lo absoluto, el vividor, el que se aprovecha de la mamá. Y así como estos casos, hay muchos más en nuestras familias.

A todas estas, este drama me caló bastante porque a mí que me tocó ser cuidadora de mi abuelo junto a mi abuela y mi mamá, que nos alternábamos las tareas y conocemos todo lo que hay que hacer y sufrir para poder atender a una persona que no puede hacer nada por sí mismo. Al ver la película me quedo pensando en cuál fue la razón por la que lo hice. Porque herencia no hay, así que esa no fue una razón. Pero si considero que todos queremos sacar provecho de una u otra forma, consciente o inconscientemente. Sea para sentirnos los mejores hijos, o los mejores nietos, demostrarles al mundo que somos buenas personas. Tal vez esté equivocada y si sea para hacer sentir mejor a la persona a la que cuidamos... Es para pensar y reflexionar.

I think everyone in life will go through something similar, and some of us have already been through this. Seeing the problems that families go through when a family member falls ill, and this film portrays it perfectly. Even going to the other side of the world, it is exactly the same: the family member who only puts money and believes that this way he will be closer to his mother, the one who leaves his skin and leaves his life aside to take care of his parents. We have the one who does not care at all, the bum, the one who takes advantage of the mother. And just like these cases, there are many more in our families.

In any case, this drama really touched me because I had to take care of my grandfather together with my grandmother and my mother, we alternated the tasks, and we know everything that has to be done and suffer to take care of a person who can't do anything by himself. Watching the movie, I am left wondering what was the reason I did it. Because inheritance isn't there, so that wasn't a reason. But I do consider that we all want to take advantage in one way or another, consciously or unconsciously. Whether it's to feel like the best children, or the best grandchildren, to show the world that we are good people. Maybe I am wrong and if it is to make the person we care for feel better? It's food for thought and reflection.

Otra cosa remarcable de la producción, es que tiene una cinematografía espectacular. Una dirección de arte que hace ver la casa de la abuela como la de cualquier abuela latina, con cajas y alacenas llenas de cosas viejas, me encantó el realismo. Y lo mejor es saber que es una producción Tailandesa, que nos da lo que tenemos mucho tiempo pidiendo: nuevas historias. Que el cine pare de hacer remakes y nos dé cosas nuevas e innovadoras para ver. Lamentablemente, no fue seleccionada como nominada a mejor película extranjera en los Oscars, pero sí considero que se lo merecía más que alguna otra por allí.

Es una película, como les dije, bellísima, se puede ver en familia, pero les aseguro que van a llorar. Altamente recomendada y con un plot twist para seguir llorando. Les comparto el tráiler a ver si les llama la atención.

Another remarkable thing about the production is that it has spectacular cinematography. An art direction that makes the grandmother's house look like any other Latin grandmothers, with boxes and cupboards full of old things, I loved the realism. And the best thing is to know that it is a Thai production, which gives us what we have been asking for a long time: new stories. That movies stop remaking and give us new and innovative things to watch. Sadly, it was not selected as a Best Foreign Film nominee at the Oscars, but I do feel it deserved it more than some others out there.

It is, as I said, a beautiful film, you can watch it with the family, but I assure you that you will cry. Highly recommended and with a plot twist to keep you crying. I share with you the trailer to see if it catches your attention.
