¡Saludos a todos, mis queridos cinéfilos! Por aquí sigo, retomando una de las cosas que más me encantan hacer: reseñas. Hoy vengo con una película del 2024 basada en hechos reales y que tenía muchas ganas de ver.

Greetings to all, my dear movie lovers! I'm still here, resuming one of the things I love to do the most: reviews. Today I come with a movie from 2024 based on real events and that I really wanted to see.

Saturday Night

Hace 50 años, sin que nadie tuviera ningún tipo de fe, fue estrenado el primer episodio en vivo de un programa que perduraría a lo largo de los años: Saturday Night Live. Y para conmemorar este aniversario, se realizó un biopic de todo lo que ocurrió un par de horas antes de este estreno. Hoy les vengo a presentar la reseña de esta película.

La palabra “caos” se queda corta cuando se hace alusión a los 90 minutos previos al estreno de este programa. Fue estrenado en el peor horario de toda la televisión: un sábado a las 11 de la noche. Su productor, Lorne Michael, se aferró a la idea de hacer un show basado en lo que veía cada noche en New York: stand up, sketches y música. Sus protagonistas eran unos completos desconocidos: Dan Aykroyd, John Belushi, Chevy Chase, Jane Curtin, Garrett Morris, Laraine Newman y Gilda Radner.

Fifty years ago, without anyone having any faith whatsoever, the first live episode of a show that would last throughout the years was premiered: Saturday Night Live. And to commemorate this anniversary, a biopic was made of everything that happened a couple of hours before this premiere. Today I come to present you the review of this movie.

The word “chaos” is an understatement when referring to the 90 minutes prior to the premiere of this program. It premiered at the worst time in all television: a Saturday night at 11:00 pm. Its producer, Lorne Michael, stuck to the idea of making a show based on what he saw every night in New York: stand up, sketches, and music. Its stars were complete unknowns: Dan Aykroyd, John Belushi, Chevy Chase, Jane Curtin, Garrett Morris, Laraine Newman and Gilda Radner.

Lo interesante de este caos, que es el tema central de toda esta película, fue bien ejecutado. Pero en mi caso, de pronto me sentí un poco desconectada por espacios de tiempo, y esto se debe a que no había un hilo conductor que conectara cada cosa que estaba ocurriendo en la película, que fue salvada por un gran final. Al final, quisieron transmitir esa sensación de libertad creativa dentro del plató, así como también, la manera en que reclutaban nuevos talentos, que muchas veces aparecían de la nada o que no estaban contemplados para ser parte del elenco.

Es maravilloso pensar que esas ideas por las que nadie da un peso, o que solo rellenan un hueco, lleguen a convertirse no solo en un éxito, sino en un semillero para el futuro y para cambiar las cosas. La comedia después de Saturday Night Live cambió para siempre, cambiaron los actores, cambiaron los escritores y nos trajeron a los antiprotagonistas. Estos personajes tal vez poco agraciados físicamente, pero que cada vez que soltaban una frase nos hacían reír hasta destornillarnos.

The interesting thing about this chaos, which is the central theme of this whole movie, was well executed. But in my case, I suddenly felt a bit disconnected by time gaps, and this is because there was no common thread connecting every single thing that was happening in the film, which was saved by a great ending. In the end, they wanted to convey that sense of creative freedom within the set, as well as, the way they recruited new talent, who often appeared out of nowhere or were not contemplated to be part of the cast.

It is wonderful to think that those ideas for which no one gives a penny, or that only fill a gap, become not only a success, but a seedbed for the future and for changing things. Comedy after Saturday Night Live changed forever, changed the actors, changed the writers and brought us the anti-protagonists. These characters may not have been physically graceful, but every time they let out a phrase, they made us laugh until we cracked up.

Probablemente, muchos de los que me estén leyendo no tengan idea de los nombres que les mencioné anteriormente, pero sé que los contemporáneos (y más viejitos), conocen muchos de estos. Sin el estreno de este show, nos habríamos perdido de películas como “La venganza de los nerds”, “Los hermanos caradura”, “Vacaciones”. Y es mucho más profundo, sin este show nos habríamos perdido de Bill Murray, Billy Cristal, Adam Sandler, Will Ferrel, Tina Fey... Ya se podrán todo de lo que nos hubiésemos perdido sin esto.

Así pues, ya podemos tener una idea del impacto de una idea. Y todo lo que puede lograr, pero para poder realizarlo, además de tener un grupo de apoyo, debemos estar atados a nuestras convicciones y no dejarnos caer por las vicisitudes y palabras negativas que estén en contra de lo que creemos.

Many of you reading this probably have no idea of the names I mentioned above, but I know that contemporaries (and older ones) know many of them. Without the release of this show, we would have missed movies like “Revenge of the Nerds”, “Blue Brothers”, “Vacation”. And it goes much deeper, without this show we would have missed Bill Murray, Billy Crystal, Adam Sandler, Will Ferrell, Tina Fey.... You can see what we would have missed without it.

So, we can already have an idea of the impact of an idea. And all that it can achieve, but in order to realize it, in addition to having a support group, we must be tied to our convictions. We must not let ourselves fall for the vicissitudes and negative words that are against what we believe.

Esta es una película muy de nicho, y si no conocen el contexto de lo que ocurre o de quiénes son las personas involucradas y personificadas, es poco probable que lleguen a conectar con la película, e incluso dudo que les llegue a gustar. Sin embargo, si eres un fanático, de seguro que vas a encontrar bastante entretenida. Espero que les haya gustado la reseña y nos leemos en otra ocasión. See ya!

This is a very niche film, and if you don't know the context of what is going on or who the people involved and personified are, you are unlikely to connect with the film, and I doubt you will even like it.
